Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Geologist or Environmental Scientist for our Helena, MT operations. This position is an environmental field support position. The selected candidate will provide field and document preparation support on environmental projects to project managers on private, state, and federal contracts. Project types range from underground storage tank cleanup, CERCLA RI and FS investigations to Targeted Brownfields Assessments and Site Assessments. This position requires sampling all types of media including soil, groundwater and surface water, air, building materials, and wastes. Includes developing technical reports based on the findings of the environmental investigations and data presentation.

Qualifications:

This is an entry to mid-level position. Candidates must have a minimum of 1-3 years of experience and also have / be:
Exposure to or experience with GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) required.
Experience with geologic assessments, remediation projects, lithologic logging, soil and groundwater sampling, groundwater modeling software preferred.
Field investigation experience including geologic well logging, monitor well development, and detailed data recording preferred.
Able to interface directly with clients and the public.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Proficiency in Scribe, GIS, and Surfer or other modeling software preferred.
Strong note-taking abilities and technical writing skills.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Field equipment troubleshooting is a plus.

In addition:
This position requires you to drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.


Degree / Certifications:
BS in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Soils or Geosciences is required.
Current HAZWOPER certification preferred.


Physical Demands:
Must be able to walk large project sites and be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.


Work Environment:
Must have the ability to travel throughout Montana and the US as needed to support environmental field projects that can range in duration from several days to up to a month.
Site visits and potential oversight for drilling and excavation projects require the ability to visit and inspect projects walking on various terrain and in all seasonal weather (hot and cold).
Must be able to carry at least 35lbs of equipment in varied terrain.
Safe work practices in a construction setting are required.


The Salary Range for this position is $48,000 to $64,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
