Our vision for Integrated Diagnostics Solutions at BD

By aligning and simplifying our work, our Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) business unit aims to drive growth and innovation around everything from integrated specimen management to diagnostic solutions.

About the role

As the Plant Leader, you will have the outstanding opportunity to provide overall site leadership for our plant in Heidelberg, Germany. In this role, you will lead a team of around 260 BD employees and contractors, with the goal of meeting the needs of our business and driving fast growth with an operating budget of $36m and influencing revenues of $75m. You will be responsible for developing an effective and forward-looking Operations/Manufacturing/R&D Strategy that supports our business strategy and ensures compliance with all quality, regulatory, financial, and safety regulations.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing all operational functions, from engineering and quality to production, supply chain, finance, R&D, and human resources.

  • Ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures at the federal, state, local, and company levels.

  • Meeting customer needs by delivering flawless products on time and maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Managing a substantial budget and optimizing product costs to enhance gross profit and asset utilization.

  • Creating a safe working environment that promotes employee well-being and prevents injuries.

  • Leading and developing talent at all levels to drive organizational growth and success.

  • Encouraging a culture of collaboration and dedication aligned with customer satisfaction and business objectives.

  • Adapting to changing business conditions and overcoming barriers to progress through effective leadership.

  • Incorporating innovative equipment and processes to attain cost, quality, and capacity goals.

  • Ensuring compliance with all BD safety and quality policies, procedures, and regulations.

About you

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Management, or a related area. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Several years of manufacturing experience in the medical device industry or a related industry (food/beverage, pharmaceuticals, etc.)

  • An outstanding entrepreneurial and strategic approach, with a focus on commercial and customer needs

  • Strong leadership skills and a consistent track record of success in leading operations

  • Experience in working with and leading various functions, including production, engineering, HR, finance, and supply chain

  • Strong adaptability to learn new skills quickly, excellent interpersonal skills, and a focus on achieving goals.

  • Fluency in English and German languages

  • Desired experience in Lean Management and Six Sigma methodologies
