Medtronic Reliability Engineer for Big Capital Equipment in Heerlen, Netherlands

A Day in the Life

As a Big Capital Engineer, you will facilitate the quick resolution of any need of repair and installation of our Big Capital equipment which includes, but are not limited to:

  • Hugo™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery system

  • O-arm™ intraoperative 2D/3D imaging system

  • Mazor™ Robotic guidance system

This position is responsible for ensuring that root causes are correctively identified, proposing corrective actions that will eliminate failure modes, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented.

You will develop processes for the testing, rework, repair, and disposition of all Service Returned products for the Big Capital OU’s.

You may work with the OU’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality teams, including the Complaint department to establish product failures. You will also be responsible for complying with all local and global policies and procedures.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned

Installation support

  • Performs various duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. To ensure full system compliance on big capital equipment by performing full functional testing before shipping to customer

  • Tests, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, and systems

  • Return inventory movements, triage, preparation for failure investigation, and tracking of return inventory locations

  • Support lab activities including crating/uncrating high-level assemblies, spare parts, and other activities as assigned

Failure investigation / confirmation

  • Be the subject matter expert in key fields related to the manufacture and repair of Class III medical devices

  • Investigate product failures, perform troubleshooting, identify root cause, and verify corrective actions

  • Aid in the development and improvement of failure investigation strategies and technical management efforts to identify and correct issues relating to device failures in the field

  • Set up and operate machines/equipment/fixtures needed to perform repair & testing processes

  • Effectively communicate and influence the outcome of a failure investigations in a high energy, cross-functional team and multi-site environment that includes R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Supplier

  • Quality/Development and Manufacturing/Operations

  • Use statistical techniques to provide statistical evidence of root cause investigation conclusions

  • Drive the development and manage the execution of complex experiments and tests on existing product lines to qualify and investigate manufacturing issues, review results, make recommendations, and develop reports

  • Complete decontamination procedures on returned parts as needed

  • Train, coach, and guide employees on more complex procedures and root cause investigation methodology

Required Knowledge and Experience

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in the medical device industry with key technologies and processes related to the assembly and manufacture of Class II or III devices

  • Experience in managing and serving in a technical role for Failure investigation or Reliability Engineering

  • Experience with Big Capital platform or complex mechanical system

Nice to Haves

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of theories and concepts relevant to engineering, especially product development, manufacturing engineering, and failure modes.

  • Experience with a variety of software packages, e.g, Agile, SAP, etc

Permanent contract performed on our site in Heerlen with 25% travel, available as soon as possible.
