Job Summary
Responsible for the provisioning, cabling, configuration, securing, updating, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, and other related service request tickets for servers located in the University Technology and Data Center. Schedule requires on-call and odd hours.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in support of the complete server lifecycle from acquisition and installation to recommendations for replacements and decommissioning.
Supports server based operating systems stability and security including utilizing standard builds, configurations, upgrades, patching, firewalls, and troubleshooting, backups and disaster recovery.
Utilize systems monitoring technologies and log analysis to monitor and adjust system performance for usage and efficiency. Interacts with vendors to resolve complex product support problems.
Maintains knowledgebase and documentation related to responsible systems and services.
Maintains and/or increases technical knowledge through coursework, workshops, seminars, readings, and cross training with other team members.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree (AAS) in computer science, business information systems, or related information technology field, and a minimum of two years’ directly related experience. Directly related experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of standard desktop operating system
Knowledge of basic networking concepts: IP, DNS, DHCP
Knowledge of server provisioning concepts: storage systems, virtualization
Knowledge of server security hardening concepts: group policy, firewalls
Knowledge of server configuration management tools
Advanced knowledge of server hardware, server operating systems, roles, and services
Advanced troubleshooting skills
Strong customer service skills
Strong organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability and availability to work on-call, odd hours
Ability and availability for light travel
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (BS) in computer science, business information systems, or related field of study, and a minimum of four years’ directly related experience. Familiarity with Microsoft and\or Linux server operating systems, as well Cisco and\or Dell server hardware and VMWare virtualization technology. Systems Administration level certifications in relative technologies are a plus.
