Job Summary
Responsible for implementing, maintaining, supporting, developing, and designing the university’s communication networks and ensures the stability, integrity, and high availability of the network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for users.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Creates, documents, and maintains the university’s enterprise communication network design.
Installs, maintains, and provides advanced troubleshooting of network hardware, software, configurations, and systems.
Maintains and/or increases technical knowledge through course work, workshops, seminars, and readings; assists in professional development of junior engineers, network administrators, and communications technicians.
Implements security policies that are related to the university’s enterprise communication network. Maintains, upgrades, and repairs university firewalls.
Monitors the health of the university’s enterprise communication network through diagnostic and analytical tools.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related field of study and a minimum of five years related and progressively more responsible experience. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
A valid driver’s license is required for travel to other teaching and research locations.
A valid and active CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Customer interface skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Extensive knowledge of network management tools and hardware configuration software.
Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Visio.
Strong organizational skills.
Extensive knowledge of standard desktop operating systems.
Ability to travel and complete overnight stays.
Extensive knowledge of MPLS configurations and troubleshooting.
Extensive knowledge of BGP configurations and troubleshooting.
Extensive knowledge of QOS configurations and troubleshooting.
Extensive knowledge of the network protocols: IP, TCP, UDP, EIGRP, GLBP, Spanning Tree, SNMP, and NTP.
Project methodology skills.
Extensive experience in network troubleshooting.
Extensive knowledge of network management tools.
Extensive knowledge of server hardware and software.
Ability to mentor staff in areas of expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
A valid and active CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification.
