POSITION SUMMARY
The Peer Specialist provides peer and support services for problem gamblers and impacted family/significant others in the Compulsive Gambling Program.
Hourly Rate $20.00
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma and recovering gambler is required. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain CCAR peer certification. Valid Drivers License is required. Safely operates vehicle in the community, based on program needs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides crisis counseling, financial recovery counseling and counseling to promote recovery from problem gambling in three modalities: individual, group, and couples/family at all Bettor Choice treatment locations.
Provides introduction to and assists with adjustment to Gamblers Anonymous/Gam-Anon programs. Assists clients with the voluntary self-exclusion process.
Assists in professional training, outreach, and public education services as assigned. This may include appearing at professional conferences, workshops, and training for behavioral health agencies and organizations. May represent Bettor Choice at community forums or serve on inter-organization committees as directed by the Program Manager. May participate in interviews to assist in raising public awareness of the personal consequences of problem gambling.
Actively participates in monthly Bettor Choice supervision calls facilitated by DMHAS Problem Gambling Services.
Have active working relationships with Bettor Choice peers throughout the state.
Obtain Recovery Support Services Certificate through CCAR (Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery)
Responds to requests for call-backs and information from the Problem Gambling Helpline or other sources of referral.
Documentation of clinical activities in client record as required by Wheeler Clinic.
Assists Program Manager and clinical staff as directed.
Attends training pertinent to the position, unit and Wheeler Clinic as a whole.
Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
