Position Summary: The Director of Quality & Patient Safety will provide the leadership and vision for the strategic planning and management of an institute-wide quality management, regulatory, accreditation and patient safety quality programs in support of the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the Cancer Institute. The Director will facilitate the integration and operation of performance improvement functions as well manage the gathering of data, analysis, and reporting of quality processes and outcomes, including the Cancer Registry. Key Accountabilities: * Directs system-wide activities related to continuous improvement of Performance Outcomes. Directly responsible for the implementation and maintenance of systems and processes for performance analysis and improvement of clinical quality and operational performance. Acts as liaison with external parties and Hartford HealthCare (HHC) system counterparts on related matters * Directs the activities of the Cancer Registry to ensure the timely, accurate and complete identification and reporting of cancer cases, collection of clinical data, coding of medical information into the tumor registry database, and maintenance of follow-up information on all types of cancer diagnosed and/or treated within HHC * Acts as liaison to Administration, Medical Staff and direct staff caregivers relative to process improvement activities in the achievement of hospital wide goals. Works to develop and implement strategies and highly reliable processes which lead to optimal patient outcomes * Works closely with physician and patient care leadership to assure compliance with State and Federal laws, and applicable licensure, accreditation and regulatory bodies. Provides analysis to support medical staff peer review and OPPE processes. Is able to translate relevant care guidelines into QI measures and dashboards, and implement novel processes to achieve or surpass national benchmarks * Is responsible for the integration of performance improvement functions and activities within HHC and the Cancer Institute * Establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, safety and performance to meet the requirements of The Joint Commission, DPH, CMS and other regulatory bodies. * Uses dashboards and reports to monitor key critical performance measurements * Promotes clinical innovation and seeks to identify and develop projects positively impacting quality outcomes, care coordination, public reporting efforts and/or patient safety. Effectively oversees various initiatives that include CORE, performance management tools, Leap Frog etc. * Responsible for the coordination of aggregation, trending and analysis of the data globally, specific to each service line and administration reports as indicated. Identification of process improvement opportunities with the service line health care teams to enhance quality outcomes. Assure accuracy in the public reporting of such data * Participate in performance improvement activities by acting as a team member, leader, coach and facilitator * Manage/supervise the registries for diseases cared for by the Cancer Institute * Works effectively as a team member within the Institute with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration * Submits, at least quarterly, QI reports to the Cancer Institute and HHC leadership * Works with the Cancer Institute staff to publish relevant reports and novel approaches to enhance and improve current QI measures, processes and programs * Bachelor’s degree in health care field required. Master Degree strongly preferred. RN strongly preferred * Ten years of relevant progressive work experience in health care and specifically oncology is preferred * Working knowledge of Federal, State, regulatory and professional requirements in quality assessment, performance improvement methodologies, and hospital medical staff structure and hospital systems is preferred * Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills required for effective and creative leadership in working with all levels of the organization including physicians, committees, senior management and trustees as well as patients and their families * Experience in effectively implementing organizational change initiatives at a system-level * Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization * Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills * Demonstrates exceptional communication and engagement skills in working within a large healthcare system We take great care of careers.
