Position Summary and Purpose: Through the use of various inspection tools, equipment, and expertise, take an active role in maintaining on-time production and analytical support through expedient analysis and reporting on quality related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Inspect various work-in-process, finished goods, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures for conformance to industry specifications

  • Provide support to Maintenance, Engineering, Service, and Production with measurements and inspections of items best checked with inspection tools and equipment available in the Quality Control department

  • Propose corrective actions through interaction with others

  • Maintain flow of materials in order to maximize customer satisfaction by achieving on-time, superior quality shipments

  • Acquire pertinent information as to design, specifications, standards, and procedures from design details, assembly drawings, standards book, machining handbook, routings, etc.

  • Check features of part and assembly against expectations using appropriate measuring devices

  • Inform Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering and production of quality errors that are design or process related through formal and informal means

  • Present corrective actions to correct quality problems to individuals and/or supervisors of area affected through formal and informal means

  • Inform Supervisor on a daily and timely basis of problems, highlighting those that may delay on-time production

  • Fill out appropriate forms, and enter appropriate data and information in appropriate information systems, which support providing timely and quality products to CI’s customers

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area; perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established inspection procedures.

  • Calibrate, test, monitor verify and track measuring devices used to ensure quality and performance of parts.

  • Stay current on inspection equipment and technology available in industry, and inform the Supervisor of those that would have value to CI’s production and should be reviewed

Education and Experience:

REQUIRED:

  • 1-2 years experience in manufacturing environment

  • Vocational or trade school training in manufacturing area

  • Fabrication, machining, and assembly experience

  • Good mechanical aptitude

  • Strong math skills with addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication, and division

  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance)

  • Strong 2D to 3D visualization, most notably for drawing interpretation

  • Excellent communication skills; especially those necessary to perform related duties

  • Strong tactile sense and visual acuity; especially at a level to accurately and consistently obtain data from inspection tools and equipment

  • Ability to handle interruptions, and return to prior work, and still perform at the same quality level.

  • Ability to listen, understand, communicate and work with others both inside and outside department

  • Strong attention to details, and pride in own work

  • Self-motivated, focused and productive throughout the workday

  • Willing and able to see an assignment through in a timely manner, recognizing the impact on Production and customers

Tools, Technology and Equipment used:

Floor operated overhead crane or hoist, Scales and Rules, Ordinary hand tools (i.e. file, screw driver, drill motor, etc.), Gauges, Calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, Surface plates, squares, angles, CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) and other precision measuring devices, Magna Flux Equipment, PC and Computer Terminals, spreadsheets, printers, forms, books and records, tags, marking pens, stamps

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for long periods of time. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms and climbing ladders. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance.

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.

The employee must regularly lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
