Hayes Township Property Maintenance Technician in Harrison, Michigan

Hayes Township is currently accepting applications for a Property Maintenance Technician which oversees all maintenance of township property, buildings and equipment.

General Job Summary

Under the direction of the Township Supervisor, Township Board, and building committee, the property maintenance technician is responsible for maintaining all township property and equipment. Such as but not limited to Township building, grounds, fixtures, equipment, park and trail. Check in with office staff once a week for the weekly agenda/work orders. 

Primary Responsibilities

Cemetery

  • Mowing, trimming, and weeding around all headstones buildings, trees, fence lines, etc. 
  • Maintaining equipment and buildings with documentation of maintenance log 
  • General skilled trades required (IE. carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, fencing)
  • Maintaining and repairing cemetery infrastructure such as fencing walkways, gates, and signage
  • Minor pest control, such as handling issues with rodents, insects
  • Routine inspections-Grave site inspection, ensuring graves are properly leveled and soil is maintained to prevent sinking
  • Seasonal snow plowing/removal
  • Winterizing and spring start-up of water supply
  • Year-round debris removal
  • Backup grave marker (will coordinate with cemetery manager)
  • Foundation setting
  • Assist with setting Veteran decoration
  • Maintain inventory log 
  • Sexton
    • Assist and execute in oversight of all burials/dis-interment plans
    • Navigate correct burial/dis-interment plots with help of diagrams and maps 
    • Operate under all applicable State of Michigan Laws & Township cemetery ordinances 
    • Proper sod maintenance 
    • Re-seed grass on plots

Municipal complex

  • Mowing and trimming around all headstones, buildings, trees, fence lines, etc. 
  • General skilled trades, and other tasks that ensure the hall is in good condition for community events and office operations, (IE. carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, fencing)
  • Maintain exercise equipment
  • Maintaining equipment and documentation of maintenance log 
  • Routine inspections of the township hall exterior, including gutters, roof, windows and siding. Performing basic repairs and cleaning to maintain the integrity of the building
  • Spring and Fall clean up
  • General cleanliness of public spaces around the township hall, including parking lots, entranceways, and nearby walkways
  • emptying trash receptacles and maintaining the cleanliness of public areas around the hall. ensuring that bins are properly emptied regularly
  • Grease trap and kitchen equipment
  • Plow and salt parking lot and driveway
    • Before building opens
    • Before scheduled rentals/event 
  • Assist in general maintenance contracted companies
    • Meeting contractors
    • Finding bids
  • Assist with water sample testing
  • Maintain inventory log

Sport Complex/grounds and Park (subject to change with addition of park)

Maintaining Park equipment & Sports facility equipment (Courts and Nets)

Winterization and spring start-up of water supply

Preparation of park area for rentals/events

Snow plowing/removal

Mowing and trimming around all buildings, trees, fence lines, etc.

Planting, watering, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Assisting with seasonal planting and removal of seasonal plants as needed

Fertilization and seeding

Painting/general maintenance 

Removal of debris

Routine inspection of playground equipment and grounds

Spring and fall cle
