Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Dog Warden (Law Enforcement) - Mifflin and Juniata Counties in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

The Department of Agriculture is seeking a detail-oriented, diligent, and dedicated State Dog Warden to join the team. Take pride in knowing you are making a genuine difference while also creating an exciting career path DESCRIPTION OF WORK As part of this role, your main responsibility will be to enforce all provisions of the Dog Law, as well as any other relevant statutes. This includes ensuring that all dogs are licensed in accordance with the State Dog Law and conducting inspections to verify compliance. Additionally, you will be responsible for investigating complaints related to dogs running at large. If you come across any dogs that are found running at large, it will be your duty to apprehend and transport them. Another important aspect of your role will involve investigating dog bites and implementing quarantines on the dogs involved to ensure public safety. This will help prevent the spread of any potential diseases and protect the community.

In addition to these duties, you will also be responsible for conducting investigations into claims for damages to livestock or poultry caused by dogs. This will involve preparing detailed reports for the payment of damages. Furthermore, you will be tasked with investigating suspected illegal transportation or killing of dogs, as well as out-of-state dealers. This will help ensure that all dog-related activities are carried out in compliance with the law. As part of your role, you will also receive complaints from the public regarding illegal kennels, violations of the State Dog Law, and inhumane kennel conditions. You will conduct thorough investigations into these complaints and issue detailed reports. Your supervisor will review these reports and may provide guidance on how to respond to the complainant.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Travel and overtime is required as needed. Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Mifflin and Juniata County. If applicant does not live in Mifflin or Juniata County, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties and the work day will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience in dog law enforcement, animal control, animal welfare, or animal science work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

You must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Additional Requirements:

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
