Pearson Project Manager in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

About the role

As Project Manager you will support School Assessment in the successful delivery and fulfilment of assigned programs.  In this role you will need to be self-motivated, diligent, and able to meet business and project demands within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You may be responsible either for multiple projects or for one larger project within a program, which often requires multiple resources and functional integration. You should be familiar with project or program objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member to effectively coordinate the activities of the Program Delivery Team. You will spend considerable time communicating with the customer and other stakeholders (vendors, cross-functional teams, subcontractors) involved in the delivery of assigned projects or programs to ensure customer satisfaction. A successful Project Manager will anticipate opportunities and issues proactively as well as manage scope using project management applications and tools. Finally, you should enjoy working with a diverse team of dedicated and passionate professionals.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage project responsibilities throughout the life cycle (initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure) for assigned functional areas based on program needs.

  • Maintain the project management toolkit, customer requirements, and necessary documentation to support effective program deliverables.

  • Collaborate with all project stakeholders (customers, internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors) to achieve project goals.

  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables.

  • Support implementation of statements of work (SOWs) and contracts.

  • Manage project scope changes, costs, and schedules, including working with the principal scheduler.

  • Implement approved actions to mitigate project risks and minimize potential impacts.

  • Identify and execute process and quality improvement initiatives to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, monitoring their effectiveness.

  • Measure project performance using tools and techniques to track progress, address variances, perform corrective actions, and communicate results to stakeholders.

  • Assist with change control processes, including tracking, creating scope documents, and gathering estimates and pricing, while maintaining scope documentation.

  • Evaluate proposed scope changes with the program delivery team and ensure proper documentation and controls are in place.

  • Identify, track, and address risks through approved actions and workarounds to minimize realization probability.

  • Execute project tasks as defined in the project plan and schedule to meet customer deliverables.

  • Prepare and present internal and external program status reports, addressing risks and other relevant issues.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal teams and external customers to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

  • Provide responsive and timely customer service to address questions, concerns, and requests.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact within the assigned functional role for day-to-day execution with customers and cross-functional teams.

  • Understand and meet customer expectations to ensure satisfaction.

  • Support Program Manager with financial reviews and documentation to ensure contracts remain within budget and margin expectations.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree desired or commensurate experience.

  • Demonstrative experience in a Project Management role.

  • PMP certification preferred or ability to demonstrate an understanding and application of Project Management Institute (PMI) principles.

  • Ability to make decisions based upon limited information and experience managing projects through influence without direct authority.

  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities, and work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

  • Significant experience with customer service and project management.

  • Understand team dynamics and foster a positive team environment.

  • High sense of urgency and attention to detail required.

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills, strong listening, negotiation and facilitation skills and the ability to develop and deliver presentations.

  • Flexibility in the workplace.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, MS Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.

  • Expert proficiency of project management applications including the use of Smartsheet (to maintain program management plan) and SharePoint (to centralize documentation).

  • Some travel required.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $60,000 - $70,000 per annum.
