UPMC Improvement Specialist Intermediate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

This part-time Improvement Specialist role provides a flexible 40-hour per 2 week pay period schedule, focusing on Quality Improvement through patient chart review, sepsis readmission prevention initiatives, and support of the diabetes and oncology service lines. Some hours may be completed remotely after successful completion of orientation, and no weekends or holidays are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain patient care as the central focus of clinical design projects.

  • Influence staff acceptance of recommended practice changes by articulating their contribution to clinical improvements.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (administrative, medical staff, and department heads) to finalize project goals.

  • Foster positive working relationships and elicit input from relevant areas.

  • Monitor progress, collect data, and communicate improvements effectively.

  • Coordinate assessment of new clinical design projects.

  • Assume leadership roles and provide mentorship.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, Business Administration or related field required at time of hire/transfer,

  • RN with acute care floor experience strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience with 3 years of hospital and/or healthcare experience required.

  • Knowledge of information systems and process improvement techniques

  • Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others.

  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: UPMC approved certification or Master's degree in a related field required. Must maintain certification status
