UPMC Echo Sonographer Trainee in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Purpose:
The Echo Sonographer trainee will be trained on proper protocol while shadowing and completing requested studies and demonstrating the ability to fulfill all functions of the responsibilities below.
Responsibilities:
All candidates for the Echocardiography Sonographer Tech Trainee program must meet and agree to the following criteria: o Willing to work rotating shifts and weekends as needed for patient care. o After successfully passing the Registry exam, will be moved into an Echocardiography Sonographer Technologist position if one is available.
After completion of training and under the supervision of Proctor/Echocardiography Sonographer, trainee will shadow until deemed capable to perform Echo transthoracic echo exams using proper protocols and procedures.
Under the supervision of Proctor/Echocardiography Sonographer, trainee properly documents patient history and enters information and measurements into CVIS.
After successful completion of training program, the trainee should be able to demonstrate competence to perform transthoracic echocardiograms.
Maintains inter and intra departmental communications.
Exhibits a positive and professional image with patients, physicians, co-workers, and peers.
Performs clerical responsibilities as needed.
Participates with Performance Improvement projects.
Complies with Echocardiography and hospital policies and procedures.*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Must be within 6 months of completion of an approved Cardiac Sonography program
Must be currently enrolled in an Advanced Imaging Tech Training program
Strong interpersonal and communication skills Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International). Cardiac Sonography certification is required after completion of the training program:
The maximum timeframe for completion of the program is 12 months
Candidate must pass both the Echo clinical registry board exam (ARDMS or CCI) and physics exam within 12 months.
When the trainee has successfully passed their physics board, they will be moved to the Echocardiography Sonographer position.
Must remain in the department for two (2) years after certification and registration are achieved. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the need to reimburse UPMC for expenses paid for participation in the program and/or becoming ineligible for promotion as an Echo Sonographer.
Failure to pass the exam and/or course will result in termination.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire.
