Penske Director, Field HR - PTL (Northeast Region) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Human Resource Director position is a key member of the HR Leadership and Field Operations team. The HR Director leads a highly professional and engaged, matrixed Region HR team that enables leaders and associates to achieve career and operational goals and serve our customers. This role partners with HR functions to ensure organization-wide HR processes and initiatives are impactful and is accountable for upholding all HR policies and procedures ensuring compliance and mitigating risk. The position will require a strategic business partner approach, collaborating with Talent Development, Legal, Labor Relations, Security, Total Rewards, Staffing, and Workforce Systems and Analytics to deliver results.
As a Human Resource Director for Penske Truck Leasing, you will partner with the Senior Vice President (SVP) to create plans that ensure the success of HR processes that enable associate engagement and retention and provide a foundation for an inclusive workplace. Additionally, you will apply HR functional expertise to analyze the talent landscape, identify opportunities, and collaborate with HR functional partners to ensure enterprise-wide solutions are impactful. You will guide and develop a team of field Human Resources Managers who directly report into field Operations leadership with a strong dotted line to the Field HR Director.
As a Field HR Director for the Northeast Region, you will have responsibility for a geographic area including PA, NJ, NY, MD, CT, MA, NH, VT, ME, RI, WV, VA with nearly 4,000 full time, part time, and casual associates. This role directly reports to the Vice President of Field HR Operations and is a partner to the regional SVP. The region office is based in Harrisburg, PA, qualified and successful candidates may reside within the region.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership: Lead and influence a team of Regional HR Professionals. Key advisor to Area Vice President (AVP) on Area Human Resources Manager (AHRM) direction, development, performance management and compensation. Ensure all Region HR team members have development plans and all required trainings and certifications. Point person for reporting out on development, performance, and capability of Region HR team to HR leadership during HR Talent Review sessions.
Business Partnership: Act as the steward of HR processes, partnering with the Region SVP to plan and cascade within their teams. Ensure that HR initiatives, programs and procedures are consistent with organization-wide direction and successfully administered and maintained. Responsible for understanding and communicating Region needs to corporate functions to share new ideas and feedback with HR Leadership. Provides SVP and regional staff with relevant and meaningful HR metrics and analytics to enable Operations to fully leverage human capital to drive business outcomes.
Associate Engagement & Retention: Oversee the implementation of organization-wide retention, recognition and appreciation initiatives in the Region and monitor their successful execution. Ensure Region D&I activities align with corporate programs and encourage leaders to foster and support an inclusive work environment. Lead and participate in the integration phase of new businesses into the Penske culture and provide ongoing support.
Talent Development: Lead the Region HR team to ensure the successful execution of talent processes in the Areas and Districts to build capability and strengthen the talent pipeline for key roles. Facilitate the Region quarterly talent reviews and prepare for participation in the PTL field annual succession meeting. Identify themes of training and development needs and collaborate with the HR leadership team, Talent Development, and functional training leadership to provide resources that support business needs.
Associate Relations & Compliance: Lead the associate relations process for the Region ensuring that escalation procedures are followed by all HR team members and conduct high level investigations. Is the steward of HR policy, ensuring consistent interpretation and application across the region. Identify patterns of issues and creates proposals for mitigation of future risks.
Labor Relations: Collaborate with Labor Relations and AHRM to create and support contract negotiations plans for large complex Collective Bargaining Agreements. Partner with Labor Relations to create and oversee the Labor Relations strategy for the Region that includes administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements, supporting negotiations and planning for union avoidance. Monitor the progress and evaluate the impact of the location risk assessments and action plans across the Region.
Workforce Management: Partner with Staffing team to ensure proper resources are aligned to the staffing needs of the Region. Partner with operations and corporate teams on the organizational design needs of roles within the Region
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
• SPHR-CP/ HRCI required
• 10+ years Human Resources Generalist experience; 3 years leadership experience in a large, decentralized, unionized environment, or strong management background with exceptional track record in getting things done through others, and a thorough understanding of the business
• Strong knowledge of HR functions: associate relations, labor relations, staffing, compensation, benefits, leadership development, compliance
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills – strong Emotional Intelligence
• Strong leadership skills, leading a team of leaders to develop and execute Field HR strategy
• Demonstrates an executive presence commensurate with building relationships at all levels within and outside of the organization.
• Exhibits a growth mindset, adapts quickly to feedback and changes in the business environment
• Ability to work well independently and as a team member, is self-driven with a sense of urgency
• Is resilient and can navigate through complex and challenging situations
• Ability to travel 50%
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
