DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a member of the Apiary Program in the Department of Agriculture, your role will involve providing support to beekeepers. This will include office, field, and laboratory assistance. As an apiary inspector, you will be responsible for reaching out to beekeepers and scheduling appointments to inspect their bee colonies. During these inspections, you will meticulously examine the colonies for any signs of harmful pests or diseases.

You may perform and analyze field tests, as well as collect samples to submit to the State Apiarist to confirm the presence of honey bee pathogens, pests, or other problems. Additionally, you will issue reports of apiary inspections, report results of laboratory tests to the owner of sampled bees and assist the State Apiarist in enforcing the PA Bee Law. This will involve assisting in the implementation of regulations and guidelines aimed at protecting honey bee populations and ensuring the overall health and well-being of the colonies.

Overall, this role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of beekeeping practices. By providing essential support to beekeepers and enforcing regulations, you will contribute to the preservation and sustainability of honey bee populations, which are vital for pollination.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time, temporary employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. This position is Home Headquartered within Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin and Somerset Counties. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a beekeeper or in related work affording a knowledge of bee handling and bee disease or one year of college course work, majoring in a biological field including a course in apiculture; or 6 months beekeeping experience and a beekeeping short course; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements: You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
