The role

Raytheon UK is looking for a graduate/early career entry RF Engineer to join a successful Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) team within the Global Sensors Mission Area, creating RF GPS/GNSS Anti-Jam Systems for the military market. The role will be based at Raytheon’s Harlow facility and the successful candidate will report directly to the APNT RF Hardware Engineering Section Lead.

This is a creative and stimulating role offering development opportunities and the chance to work alongside our highly skilled technical team.

The RF Hardware Engineer will be able broaden their knowledge and make their mark on a broad and varied range of product designs. They will be expected to assist in the integration of these designs into product being the focal point for the complete solution.

They will have the opportunity to support engineering solutions, overseeing the integration of contributions from all other engineering disciplines – including systems, hardware, mechanical, software, safety and reliability. This is the ideal opportunity for an early careers RF Hardware Engineer who wants to work on exciting technology and product development projects in a collaborative environment whilst increasing their knowledge.

The successful candidate will ideally have some knowledge and or experience in RF products and their design. The home office location will be based at Harlow with attendance on site expected in line with Raytheon’s hybrid working model.

This role includes:

• Developing requirements for new products.

• RF hardware design and development– From the initial concept stage, developing these concepts through to final production and certification.

• Design and implement RF test solutions.

• Working within the product hardware team and working with all other engineering disciplines throughout the design cycle, in a collaborative working and shared environment.

• Producing design documentation and reports for project artefacts and deliverables.

• Working with internal customers and the Product Design Authority to help develop and shape the technical requirements design. Then deliver the design to meet the requirements set during product development.

• Interface with suppliers and industry experts.

• Solving complex technical problems on new and existing GPS/GNSS Anti-Jam Products.

Essential Skills:

  • A passion for all things RF with a desire to learn and grow within a dynamic environment.

  • A basic understanding / some experience in design and layout of RF and analogue micro circuitry.

  • A basic understanding of down conversion and up conversion techniques and processing methods.

  • A basic understanding in the use of RF test equipment.

  • A basic knowledge of product design and problem solving within a design for manufacture environment.

  • Knowledge of the full system design lifecycle.

  • Good team player who is willing to take ownership of problems and actively engages in IPT and group activities.

  • A basic understanding of circuit operation, debug, diagnose and implement fixes.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Good communication skills. Ability to tailor communications to level and audience at all levels.

  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK, Europe and the US.

  • Eligible or current holder of SC security clearance.

Desirable Skills:

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in design and layout of RF and analogue micro circuitry and micro integration into products for harsh environments and hostile EM conditions.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in the design of Receiver technologies in the 1-2 GHz band with an emphasis on GPS/GNSS signal.

  • Ideally some design experience of down conversion and up conversion techniques and processing methods.

  • Ideally a familiarity with Microwave simulators (Cadence preferred), PCB layout and Mechanical modeling tools.

  • Ability to take an overall systems view.

  • Willing to take ownership as well as positively contributing within cross-disciplined teams.

  • Ideally some experience in interpretation of customer specs and end use environments.

  • Experience in stakeholder management and customer interfacing skills.

  • Understands the principles of 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing

  • Able to prioritise and manage their tasks to ensure all are completed to time and schedule.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in the interpretation of customer specs and end use environments with Potential to develop hardware concepts efficiently from limited or vague customer requirements and communicate potential solutions.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in the design for manufacture for high volume product.

  • Analytical Engineer who can process data efficiently to provide solutions to problems and communicate the outcomes at all levels.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience with interfacing to RF circuitry and high-speed D/A /A/D conversion

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in using the Mentor Graphics tool suite; xDxX Designer, Constraints Editor, HyperLynx tools such as Signal Integrity & Power Analyser or equivalents would be advantageous.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in analytical skills in circuit simulation (MATLAB, LT Spice)) and thermal analysis.

  • Ideally a basic understanding / some experience in Product Quality Testing and Certification.

Required Education:Preferably a minimum of Degree in related subject, preferably in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. Applicants will also be considered with a relevant higher national qualification combined with some experience in a RF product design and development and or RF testing with good debugging and repair experience within an Electronics Product Environment.
