The Maryland Department of Transportation The Secretarys Office (MDOT TSO) is seeking a Director of Budget (Fiscal Services Administrator VI) to be a critical member of the Finance Senior Management team. This position directly oversees the day-to-day operations of the three-member budget unit at The Secretarys Office and is responsible for an approximately $2 billion operating budget which includes the allocation of over 9,000 positions across five modes.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Operate budget formulation, justification, presentation, execution, monitoring, and control.
- Develop an operating budget within the financial capacity of the Transportation Trust Fund.
- Primary liaison with other state agencies regarding budget issues.
- Oversee MDOTs fiscal note responses.
- Advisory support to the Departments Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Transportation on budget and other strategic issues.
The current vacancy exists at MDOT TSO, Office of Finance, which is located in Hanover, MD. (Anne Arundel County).
This position may allow a hybrid work schedule, including telework and on-site work hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Possession of a bachelors degree in accounting, auditing, public or business administration, finance,
economics or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience overseeing the development and execution of an annual operating
budget. Five (5) years of this experience must have been performed at a senior management level.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Understanding of the States budget process.
- Knowledge of budget principles.
- Superior analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
