Receiving Supervisor

Job Summary:

The selected candidate will report to the to support the Hampton, VA Plant. The Receiving Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming shipments and preparing items for shipment to the departments seven days per week. Establishes and coordinates departmental activities to meet objectives to coincide with plant goals.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures inventory accuracy for raw materials under position’s control.

  • Understands bills of lading, invoices, miscellaneous shippers and other records to determine priorities, work assignments and methods required to meet receiving schedules.

  • Ensures compliance with all DOT regulations.

  • Correctly classify and label hazardous material shipments

  • Determines legal load limits of our truck, according to established schedules and weight limits of states and/or truck.

  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.

  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service company for repair.

  • Maintains vehicle maintenance report.

  • Directs movement of shipments from receiving platform to storage and/or work areas

  • Develops and recommends annual budget requirements for the Warehouse and Receiving Department. Anticipate and request funding for future personnel requirements. Anticipate and request funding for future material handling equipment.

  • May assist workers in receiving activities.

  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Maintains time and production records.

  • Establishes project plans and coordinates activities for continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Makes recommendations for hiring / firing and promotions of his/her employees.

  • Completes performance evaluations on his/her employees.

  • Maintains measurements for department performance.

  • Performs disciplinary action for his/her employees.

  • Responsible for training and mentoring team leaders for their individual development.

  • Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Reads and interprets documents such as EHS policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and activity instructions. Writes routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  • Ability to prepare and recommend departmental budget requirements. Ability to use excel spreadsheets to prepare reports to management. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Solves practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to use independent judgment

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

This position requires a minimum of a High School diploma/G.E.D.

Experience:

This position requires a minimum of one-year Shipping and Receiving experience and a minimum of three-years related manufacturing experience in a leadership role
  • Must be able to provide documentation in the original form establishing both your identity and your employment eligibility in the U.S.

  • This position entails access to export-controlled items you must be able to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Associate degree in Business related field.
