Langley Research Center Quality Assurance Specialist (Direct Hire) in Hampton, Virginia

Summary The Research Services Directorate (RSD) at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) is currently seeking interested applicants for the position of Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist in the Research Systems Integration Branch (RSIB). This position performs quality assurance surveillance and inspecting that supports airborne research on NASA LaRC Aircraft. Responsibilities Plans and develops program procedures and internal controls, not limited to, quality assurance (QA) in an aircraft environment, occupational safety, and contract management. Supports fixed wing aircraft operations including avionics, electronics, airframes, power plants, mechanical modifications, and general aircraft airworthiness and methodology applicable to NASA and FAA regulations and requirements. Conducts aircraft safety inspections to identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions which could cause damage to aircraft and/or personnel. Serves as adviser on matters of aviation ground safety. Reviews procurement documents, engineering drawings, and specifications to ensure adequate quality requirements are provided in acquisitions. Assists with the quality surveillance of programs (aircraft records, metrology and calibration, foreign object damage, tool control, ground support equipment, fuel surveillance, HAZMAT, oil analysis, weight/balance, and unapproved parts). Supports the aircraft weight and balance program. Performs aircraft configuration control, maintenance manual and flight manual change tracking. Investigates and analyzes adverse quality trends or conditions and initiates corrective action. Develops monitoring and measurement plans to troubleshoot contributing factors. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Supporting the planning or development of quality assurance functional programs, concepts, operating principles, aeronautical standards, documentation procedures, airworthiness activities or methodologies in accordance with regulations and requirements; Performing aircraft maintenance or modifications and interpreting specifications or technical data to assist with ensuring quality requirements or standards are met; Analyzing or evaluating aircraft systems (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, powerplant, electrical, avionics) across aircraft platforms to support the inspection or troubleshooting of aircraft maintenance or modifications.
