This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Program Coordinator will support the School Age Child Care Program (SACC). The position will be responsible for developing and implementing curriculum in the SACC programs, as well as coordinating Vacation camp, and Kids Night Out special events. The Coordinator will also be responsible for ensuring the Y’s Before and After School programs comply with all aspects of the State of New Jersey Licensing, including maintain all records and files, and all aspects of the re-licensing process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • At all times, maintain a professional demeanor, as a representative of the YMCA. Wear YMCA T-shirt every day. Encourage through positivity.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing curriculum following the Y of USA’s Best Practices to promote social growth and academic enhancement in the Y’s afterschool programs, including Health Y, Active Science, Character Counts and more TBD to meet the mission of the Y at all sites. Utilize a variety of programmatic and activity options to help youth explore and develop their interests and talents.

  • Manage all aspects of NJ State Licensing for 10 sites, including complying and maintaining records to meet all requirements.

  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring and training of all SACC staff. Assist with program and staff evaluations.

  • Oversee the operations of the vacation camps and Child Watch program.

  • Coordinate transportation needs.

  • Liaison for New Jersey State Licensing by following New Jersey State guidelines for Child Care licensing. Maintain accurate and reliable records and comply with requests from the licensing inspectors.

  • Develop a schedule of staff training, track to ensure compliance with state licensing requirements.

  • Work with Supervisor and Marketing in the development of all promotional materials.

  • Develop relations with all key staff personnel and families.

  • May be required to deliver a minimum of 12-15 hours per week of direct program support.

  • Work with Supervisor with annual budget development and strategic planning.

  • Support the YMCA mission through volunteer development and assist in the Annual Campaign through the development and implementation of special fundraising events.

  • Attend all necessary meetings and trainings as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Child Care, youth work, recreation or related preferred or equivalent experience.

  • Three (3) years’ experience in Child Care, youth work, recreation or related field.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to relate to children and communicate in various venues, i.e., public speaking, presentations.

  • Ability to facilitate learning in others and ability to supervise others.

  • Knowledge of NJ State Licensing requirements preferred or willingness to attend full licensing workshop within 60 days of hire.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Understanding age specific characteristics of children and positive behavior management techniques.

  • Ability to use typical business computer software and office equipment.

  • Ability to be flexible and travel from site to site.

  • Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be capable of being on your feet for long periods and be able to actively supervise children in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Must be capable of bending, kneeling, squatting and lifting 30 pounds. Must be able to visually account for all children in the program, whether inside or outside. Must be able to hear whistle or alarms. Clear speaking voice is needed to command control of group.
