Who We Are

Powertrain Engineering (PE) is part of Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT), a division of Volvo Group North America, provide state-of-the-art research, engineering, product planning and project execution to final delivery of complete products and support of the products in the aftermarket. PE is responsible to develop and maintain products and product components of the complete driveline. It also includes Group Truck Technology’s center of development and expertise for Hydrogen solutions.

Our Air Management & Fuel Injection team is responsible for air and gas systems and fuel systems. Our subsystems include turbocharging, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and cooling, intake throttle, exhaust braking, fuel injection, fuel filtration, and fuel pumping. We develop both hardware and calibrations within these subsystems.

What you will be doing

As a co-op you will have the opportunity to support real engineering objectives within a team of experienced engineers. You will work with a mentor who will help orient you in the group and guide your development activities. Your tasks could be in simulation, testing support, part inspections, data analysis, and other engineering functions. A typical day might include:

  • Conducting data analysis and drawing conclusions from your results

  • Supporting test rigs related to fuel injection systems or air management systems

  • Working with an engineer to support simulation within the team

  • Analysis of On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) data and development of improvement proposals to algorithms or calibrations

Through your day-to-day work, you will find out how to apply your engineering education to the real world. A strong, independent work ethic and inquisitive attitude are a must!

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with mentor to shape work and learning tasks for the session

  • Engineering tasks will be assigned by a leading engineer – progress through these tasks and communicate status and conclusions regularly

  • Conduct a technical presentation to the Air Management & Fuel Injection team at the end of the session

  • Present a high level summary of your experience at Volvo to site management at the end of the session

  • Maintain a positive and curious attitude

Who you are

You are an Engineering student that is prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment, gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of engineering.  As a valued member of the engineering team within GTT, you will have the opportunity to work directly with the engineers in the department.  GTT’s values collaboration and life-long learning and our goal is to contribute to your development while providing you an opportunity to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry.  You will report to the Air Management & Fuel Injection Manager.

Required:

  • Must be enrolled and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering program at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies. 

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75

  • Co-ops are not enrolled in academic courses during their co-op rotation and may work up to 40 hours per week

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00.The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
