The Opportunity:

The VP, Global Data Governance, Legal, Compliance & Ethics will play a critical role in ensuring the legal, compliant and ethical use of data across Teva, its affiliates, subsidiaries and Company contractors. This role requires a strategic leader equipped with exceptional business partnering abilities and extensive prior experience in legal and/or compliance roles, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry that support privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, and the appropriate use of emerging artificial intelligence (“AI”) technologies.

As Teva’s VP, Global Data Governance, Legal, Compliance & Ethics, this role will optimize Teva’s current global privacy program and ensure that it operates as an enterprise-wide center of excellence (“COE”) and ensure privacy considerations are embedded into AI and other data initiatives as appropriate. Additionally, this role will oversee the development and implementation of new data governance frameworks, policies, processes, and standards to ensure the proper management and use of organizational data, including ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

This is a combined legal and compliance role. It will focus primarily on providing support in three subject matter areas: (i) privacy, (ii) AI, and (iii) cybersecurity, along with other data management needs, such as records management while operating out of Teva’s law division to provide relevant legal and compliance counselling, strategy, and leadership. A close partnership will be maintained with Teva’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer. The role will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer.

The Global Data Governance VP will champion the promotion and education of data privacy, AI, and cybersecurity policies, programs, projects, and governance best practices across the enterprise to ensure appropriate integration. This leader also will support various audits and investigations related to the targeted subject matter areas.

Presently the law division is creating a COE for Data Governance. The Global Data Governance VP will have primary responsibility for designing and administering this COE.

The Global Data Governance VP will serve on the various leadership teams of the Chief Legal Officer, the Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, and Chief Information Officer of Teva.

This role can be based in the Netherlands/Parsippany, US/Israel or Zagreb, Croatia

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Data Governance Legal and Other Strategies: Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements, based on a legal and compliance framework.

  • Privacy Regulations Compliance: Optimize Teva’s global privacy program and further ensure privacy considerations are embedded into AI and other Company data initiatives as appropriate. Stay abreast of global privacy laws and regulations (such as GDPR, CCPA, and emerging frameworks) and ensure the Company's data practices adhere to these regulations.

Additional aspects of privacy oversight responsibilities include:

  • Individual rights requests and incident/breach response.

  • Privacy contract language, notices, consents, forms, and materials reflecting Teva’s and other privacy requirements.

  • Ensure all relevant Company databases containing personal data are properly documented, shielded, and registered. And appropriately manage Company contractors with a privacy lens.

  • Collaborate on and support cybersecurity and AI policies and procedures from a privacy mindset.

  • Monitor privacy-related internal controls on Company systems.

  • AI Ethics and Responsible AI: Establish guidelines and frameworks for the legal, ethical, and responsible use by Teva of AI technologies, including bias mitigation, fairness, transparency, and accountability. Educate Company personnel in this regard. Help guide the Company in using AI wisely to further pivot to growth goals.

  • Cybersecurity: Provide legal and compliance counselling and strategic contributions to the Company’s policies and procedures for cybersecurity and in assisting the CIO in addressing major IT incidents.

  • Launch the Global Data Governance COE: Design, build and administer this COE. This COE will include a team of direct reports from the compliance organization who represent each major geographic region. Additionally, there will be matrixed reporting lines with several lawyers who are responsible for various data governance subjects among other general law duties. A key objective will be to assimilate and develop this group under the new COE.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information management, or related field required. Master's or Law degree strongly preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in data governance, privacy compliance, AI, cybersecurity, international legal and/or related roles.

  • Deep understanding of global data protection & privacy regulations and their implications for data management practices. Leadership on prior company teams with these responsibilities and/or having created privacy and other data governance units.

  • Deep knowledge of and experience with AI and its potential implications to data protection and privacy.

  • Able to influence external regulator policies and laws.

  • Proven track record of implementing data governance frameworks and best practices.

  • Experience in successfully developing experts and/or leaders.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) a plus.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with ability toinfluence and collaborate across all parts of the organization and bring decisions to the appropriate level.
