Position Summary

AutoZone is seeking an experienced Architect to join the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team. Our goal is to grow and mature the EA practice at AutoZone by improving architecture and governance processes. We regularly partner with IT Leadership, Business Stakeholders, and Product Owners to produce detailed roadmaps, improve alignment, and increase visibility for Programs and Projects to drive digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the suite of Enterprise Architecture standards, collaborating with other Architects and Stakeholders to develop and review all technology standards.

  • Own the Governance Process for reviewing project designs and ensuring that solutions adhere to technology standards, are aligned with Business and IT strategy, and are appropriately robust.

  • Collaborate with execution teams to provide timely recommendations and drive solution design to the best possible outcomes that align with our Long-Term Strategy and Standards

  • Collaborate with Business Stakeholders and Product Owners to develop business capability roadmaps to frame long-term business strategy.

  • Collaborate with IT Leaders and Stakeholders to develop technology capability roadmaps to frame long-term IT strategy, analyzing the landscape for critical deficiencies or gaps.

  • Own and be an advocate for the Enterprise Architecture tool suite and enable users to manage their products and make strategic plans.

  • Be a Trusted Advisor for AutoZone that can assist with level setting expectations, resource planning, estimation of effort, or general understanding of the IT landscape.

  • Be a Leader that clearly articulates a vision to multiple audiences and helps drive toward long term strategic outcomes incrementally through IT initiatives.

  • Be a Mentor and Thought Leader for AutoZone IT and the industry

    Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer-science or related field

  • 12+ years of experience in the IT industry with hands on development experience and appropriate depth in at least one technology stack

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical / Solutions Architect

  • Experience leading multiple dependent, parallel work streams a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience.

  • A systems thinker, able to move fluidly between high-level abstract thinking and detail - oriented implementation, able to summarize large amounts of information for multiple audiences.

  • Ability to independently research, assess, and compare new technologies, platforms, or tools and determine potential use for AutoZone.

  • A self-starter that is naturally inquisitive, requiring only small pieces to the puzzle across many technologies, both new and legacy - able to quickly learn new technologies and tools.

  • A fact-driven decision maker, with an ability to make quick decisions in uncertain circumstances.

  • Broad and deep understanding of industry standard concepts, patterns of application architecture, patterns of architecture change, methodologies, and principles

  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying large-scale, highly available, robust software solutions, particularly using Service-Based and/or Event-Based Architectures

  • Experience with Cloud Providers, Hybrid Cloud, or Multi-Cloud a plus
