Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College AR/VR Welding Instructor / F275P in Gulfport, Mississippi
This position is for a AR/VR Welding Instructor - Ingalls with a company location in Gulfport, MS.
Position Description: The incumbent is responsible for preparing and teaching a full range of welding techniques, such as gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and flux-cored arc, to non-credit welding students/trainees as needed. In addition to in-person instruction, the incumbent must also incorporate virtual technology, such as online simulators and digital tutorials, to provide remote or supplementary welding training. The incumbent should be proficient in using virtual tools to demonstrate welding techniques and assess student skills. The incumbent will report to a Workforce Project Director.
Duties and Responsibilities: Be skilled in welding techniques such as gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and flux-cored arc in addition to working with a variety of metals such as aluminum and steel. Be skilled in the fabrication and repair of marine piping systems. Educate students using augmented reality/virtual reality to replicate proper safety equipment use. Supervise and instruct students as they practice in virtual welding environments, providing real-time feedback to improve skills. Remain current with industry technology, standards, equipment, techniques, and software. Ensure that augmented reality/virtual reality equipment is operational, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with technical support to maintain seamless instruction. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance. Exhibit a high degree of skill and attention to detail. Combine augmented reality/virtual reality performance data with traditional assessment methods, helping students understand how virtual skills transfer to real-world welding tasks. Have excellent working knowledge of necessary tools and equipment. Maintain all documentation for training as required by AccelerateMS guidelines, MGCCC policies and procedures, and other governmental agencies and organizations. As necessary, coordinate purchase of supplies with supervisor in accordance with college policies and procedures including, but not limited to, securing two quotes, assisting with bid and/or RFP documents, and working with companies to secure the proper invoices and schedule deliveries. Communicate with trainees about training opportunities and assist with registration and scheduling of trainees. Perform duties independently and exercise a high degree of autonomy. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in outdoor temperatures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Workforce Solutions or college administration.
Qualifications:
Mandatory: Minimum three years full-time welding experience with structural welding and pipe welding. Have demonstrated competencies in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, all positions plate and pipe, ferrous and non-ferrous metal. Proficient with plasma cutting equipment and capable of operation and maintenance of all welding lab equipment. Demeanor, training, and skills necessary to provide effective instruction to a diverse group of individuals with varying degrees of previous experience. Proficient with computer and communication skills.
Desirable: Have a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Relevant Associate's degree in technical education or related field. Experience working at a community college.
