POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction, the Academic Assistant II provides faculty with advanced administrative and academic support. This role involves performing diverse and confidential administrative duties that require extensive experience, skills, and knowledge of organizational policies and practices. The Academic Assistant II manages programs, projects, and processes specific to the departments served, exercising independent judgment and basic reasoning skills.
The position frequently involves non-routine interactions with internal and external stakeholders, requiring a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
This is a full-time role operating 11 months per year.
Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to faculty and teaching staff by assisting with academic, research, and service-related tasks, including document composition, editing, and general correspondence.
Serve as a communication liaison on and off campus and utilize electronic tools to support classroom teaching.
Coordinate and assist with meetings, special projects, events, and conferences to ensure smooth execution.
Manage day-to-day office operations, providing visitors with information and supervising student office assistants.
Support faculty recruitment and hiring processes by assisting search committees with online application systems and coordinating all aspects of initial and on-campus interviews.
Collaborate with Communications staff to ensure web content meets college standards, aligns with system capabilities, and adheres to planned enhancements.
Provide backup administrative support for Academic Support Assistant positions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or General Education Degree ( GED )
At least one year of experience for Academic Assistant I; three or more years of experience for Academic Assistant II.
Effective communicator across diverse constituencies using various modes of communication.
Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
Ability to independently manage workloads, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and minimal supervision required.
Skilled in composition, editing, and proofreading with an emphasis on grammar and punctuation.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint preferred.
