Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E+ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary :

As a Design Engineer in the Power Electronics and Motors area, you will by joining a rapidly growing team on the cutting edge of electric drive technology. You will have the unique opportunity to direct and contribute to the concept, development, and design of rotating electrical components.

You will be responsible for the coordination and execution of mechanical and electrical design and development efforts to support various types of electrification projects. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a highly capable team of engineers having significant experience across Caterpillar’s electric drive applications.

What You Will Do:

  • Execute projects including New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, cost reduction, quality improvements, etc. on time, on cost, and with quality.

  • Follow appropriate process rigor with a strong quality mindset, including project planning, APQP, and FMEAs

  • Work with machine systems application teams to establish electrical and mechanical requirements for motors and generators.

  • Lead and/or play an active role is supplier development, selection, collaboration, and validation.

  • Collaborate with other Caterpillar teams, including global teams in China and India

  • Collaborate with machine businesses, Subject Matter Experts, architecture teams, validation teams, etc. to execute critical product development programs.

  • Stay up to date with the latest advances in rotating electrical machine technologies and solutions.

  • Identify emerging technology / base of supply for rotating electrical components, including verification and validation planning.

  • Document and resolve product issues.

  • Procurement, inventory management, and shipment of components

What you will have:

Degree Requirement

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering curriculum

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience with electric drive systems and/or components, especially motors and generators

  • Strong communication skills

  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex assignments

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Experience with quality tools including FMEA, APQP & PPAP

  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes

  • Experience with issue resolution processes such as 6 Sigma DMAIC, 8D, etc.

Additional Information

  • This position will sit from Mossville, IL, Lafayette, IN, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Tucson, AZ, Alpharetta, GA or Griffin, GA in a hybrid flexible role (3 days in office, 2 days work from home).

  • Up to 10% travel will be needed.
