Description:

The John R and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS ) at North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T) solicits applicants for the position of Student Engagement Coordinator. The purpose of this position is to develop and implement initiatives that promote student success and professional growth. We seek an innovative individual who understands the current student landscape including challenges they face and activities they are likely to participate in. This position works closely with all units in the college to coordinate academic advising and administrative functions that promote student engagement, academic success, professional development, and a strong sense of community within individual academic disciplines.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina A & T State University is a public land grant high research institution that is committed to teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service. As the largest HBCU in the nation, our enrollment is over 13,487 students and our workforce includes over 2,000 employees. North Carolina A&T State University offers over 90-degree programs at the bachelors, master’s, and doctoral levels through eight academic colleges. The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS ) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work ( MSW ), Master of Science in Health Psychology and Ph.D. in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, and Doctor of Nurse Practice ( DNP ). The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research ( CIHDER ), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred:

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent administrative or office management experience; however, a master’s in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or a related field is preferred.

-One year experience with student support and advisement.

-Possesses strong computer and software skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite or equivalents, written and verbal communication, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.

-Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and faculty, work independently and manage multiple responsibilities, and take initiative when appropriate.

-Ability to work in a flexible way that allows for changes in assignments and priorities depending on programmatic and student needs

-Presentation and group facilitation experience

-Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

-Ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines

-Strong organizational and communication and interpersonal skills

-Experience in planning and implementing events

-Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
