North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Regional Extension Director –Western Region in Greensboro, North Carolina

The Regional Extension Director provides leadership for A&T’s county staff in developing and maintaining comprehensive, multidisciplinary, issue-based Extension programs in his/her assigned region. The Regional Extension Director applies a broad perspective and understanding of subject matter and priority issues impacting limited resource individuals, families and communities to recruit, select, train, and evaluate county extension agents and paraprofessionals in collaboration with district and county directors.

This position: (1) leads staffing efforts in assigned region in consultation with county extension directors to ensure needs of limited resource populations are being addressed through program offered by Cooperative Extension at N.C.A&T; (2) supervise and monitor progress and performance of 25+ county staff (3) prioritizes regional issues identified by specialized committees for consideration by state environmental scanning teams and strategic planning council; (4)coordinates the planning, design implementation and evaluation of effective county, multi-county and regional Extension programs in cooperation with county and district directors, state program leaders and other appropriate personnel at the land-grant universities; (5) ensures the development of innovative, high quality programs that reflect the needs of limited resource audiences by guiding the efforts of county staff in implementing the programming process; and (6) ensures that educational programs and outreach are in compliance with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Affirmative Action Plan in terms of client diversity.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State Extension, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, Cooperative Extension has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian ( EBCI ) Nation.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in related field and five or more years of progressive work experience in Cooperative Extension or community-based educational program delivery at national, state and/or local level. Essential experience includes demonstrated abilities in designing, implementing, evaluating and reporting impact of community-based, non-formal educational programs; supervision of professional and support employees; and experience working effectively with people at all socioeconomic levels.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • A doctorate with successful completion of graduate level courses in program development, evaluation, administration, adult education and leadership development.

  • Six or more years in educational leadership.

  • Desired qualities include habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, an appreciation for diversity and the worth of the individual, and a high degree of objectivity.

    This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
