Actalent Controls Engineer in Greensboro, North Carolina

Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description

The ideal candidate for this position has a positive attitude, a solid work ethic, and enjoys working with others to produce a quality product. This role requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, project management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to interact successfully with employees at all levels of the organization. The candidate must be able to work individually and as part of a team, and have a flexible schedule to support 2nd and 3rd shifts when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical control systems

  • Design, install, maintain, and modify PLC systems and be able to install and troubleshoot AC/DC drives and motors

  • Understand and be able to work with relays, contacts, transformers, motor starters, sensors, switches, etc.

  • Provide technical support and make software changes on PLC-based equipment

  • Assist maintenance supervisors with machinery issues

  • Reduce repeat downtime issues on machines

  • Support the plant safety program

  • Assist in the start-up of new technology

  • Manage continuous improvement and modernization efforts of older systems within the plant

  • Contribute to cost-saving ideas and efforts

  • Analyze new designs supplied by new machine sales representatives

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of industrial experience with electrical control systems

  • Knowledge of Wonderware

  • Ability to write advanced control system programming

  • Experience with PLC programming, specifically Allen-Bradley, GE, and Siemens

  • Electrical troubleshooting skills, particularly with 480 Volt systems

  • Experience with HMI displays

  • Hands-on experience with volt meter chasing issues in a production atmosphere

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent maintenance experience

Work Environment

The position requires a flexible schedule to support 2nd and 3rd shifts when needed. The work environment is production-based, involving hands-on experience with electrical cabinets, troubleshooting, and programming PLCs. The candidate should be comfortable working with various electrical components and systems, and be committed to supporting plant safety and continuous improvement efforts.
