The Department of Applied Engineering Technology ( AET ) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Automotive Technology or Automotive Engineering (or related field, starting in August 2025. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level. An appointment at a higher rank may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular, the Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in automotive engineering and technology. The program should align with the Department and the College’s interests in Applied Science and Technology..
The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to teach Applied Engineering Technology and Automotive/Motorsports Technology courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in automotive engineering and technology, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of MS students in the Technology Management program and PhD students in the Applied Science and Technology program. Mentoring undergraduate research students is also expected as Applied Engineering Technology majors in the department follow a curriculum where students are encouraged to research. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts will promote the mission of the Applied Engineering Technology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology ( COST ) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and other technology areas is expected. Service to the Department, the College and the University is also a requirement of the position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The College of Science and Technology enrolls over 2290 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.
The Department of Applied Engineering Technology ( AET ) enrolls about 400 undergraduate and graduate majors. The Department offers five degree programs: a BS in Applied Engineering Technology, a BS in Automotive Engineering Technology, a BS in Computer Graphics Technology, a MS in Technology Management, and a PhD in Applied Science and Technology. Both undergraduate programs are approved by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering ( ATMAE ). The BS in Applied Engineering Technology is accredited by ABET . The Department of Applied Engineering Technology’s mission is to educate students to become competent and confident leaders who excel in the global scientific community. Requirements:
PhD in Automotive or Vehicle Engineering, Automotive or Vehicle Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related engineering or technology field by the anticipated date of appointment.
Preferred:
1) Postdoctoral research in automotive engineering or technology field;
2) Strong aptitude for using instructional technology;
3) A research and pedagogy plan that can attract funding from various granting agencies;
4) Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other faculty and colleagues;
6) Industry experience in automotive technology or related field;
7) Demonstrated record of independent research and publishing.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
