About Putnamville Correctional Facility:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Putnamville Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium security Correctional facility for adult males. The Putnamville Correctional Facility is located in Greencastle, Indiana. The Putnamville Correctional Facility, established in 1914, was known for nearly 70 years as the Indiana State Farm and has been the recipient of several environmental awards. The facility offers educational and work training programs, including training in coding and visual and audio programming through The Last Mile, and other programs focused on education and parenting.
Role Overview:
Incumbent acts as a highly responsible administrator by directing, managing, and supervising the facility’s operations and custodial functions. Incumbent may develop, interpret, and implement operational procedures, operational directives, and post orders. Incumbent ensures adherence to all departmental policies and procedures relevant to operations and custody. Incumbent will operate within the confines of established guidelines with regard to budget, Departmental policies, State and Federal law, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, and National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards. Incumbent manages a large staff, which includes custody, unit team, classification, and laundry. Incumbent reports to the Superintendent and directs the management of the facility in the Superintendent’s absence.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Develops, establishes, and implements high/medium security facility policies, procedures, and objectives;
Formulates operating procedures for areas of assignment and recommend improvements to Warden;
Participates in staff selection, training and evaluate staff performance;
May confer with offender’s family on issues such as visitations and commissary;
Assists with facility budget preparation;
Partners with various groups on outreach programs and media regarding facility operations;
Coordinates, participates in, and investigates staff/offender issues and discipline;
Coordinates activities of the internal offender disciplinary board;
Recruits, selects, onboards, and trains employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development;
Sets expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensures work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have
a High School Diploma or HSE diploma, and
at least 5+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience;
Extensive knowledge of the correctional law, regulations, and court decisions;
Advanced knowledge of methods and operations used in treatment, rehabilitation and resocialization;
Advanced knowledge of public administration principles;
Ability to supervise, plan, organize, and coordinate the programs and activities of the facility;
Ability to effectively handle precedented challenges that may arise in a correctional facility;
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow;
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
