COUNTY OF BROWN Environmental Health Technician LTE in GREEN BAY, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Brown County Public Health protects and promotes equitable health and wellness through prevention, education, leadership, and partnerships. We are looking for someone who is passionate about public health and serving the community as the LTE Environmental Health Technician. The primary responsibility of the LTE Environmental Health Technician is to assist the Environmental Health Technicians with the Tourist Rooming Home licensing program. The LTE Environmental Health Technician licenses, inspects, and regulates Tourist Rooming Homes, and aids with providing varied professional public health work in the inspection of food, lodging and recreational facilities and the investigation and resolution of environmental complaints, nuisances, and hazards, under the supervision and authority of the Environmental Health Manager. This is a Limited Term Employment position which means there are no benefits given with the role. Please note: This position will be needed through approximately 12/31/2025 Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Inspects establishments and activities covered by county ordinances and State of Wisconsin regulations as appropriate. Consults with operators regarding code requirements. Assists with the Tourist Rooming Home program, which includes but is not limited to: Assisting with Tourist Rooming Home compliance as appropriate Provides education and information on environmental health matters to licensed facilities and the public. Maintains current, adequate records of all activities, samples, time allotment, etc., and prepares applicable reports. Composes and directs correspondence relating to activities. Participates in Environmental Health intake process. Assists Public Health Sanitarians as needed Interprets codes, determines compliance and enforcement actions, and issues orders under the direct supervision and authority of the Environmental Health Manager and the Public Health Officer; provides testimony at hearings and court appearances if required. Consults with medical professionals, veterinarians, law enforcement, code enforcement officers, and others in a professional capacity as needed. Coordinates meetings and conferences pertaining to areas of responsibility; attends meetings or conferences as required. Participates in training and exercises /drills to prepare for and respond to public health threats in accordance with county and departmental emergency response plans. Participates in quality improvement projects and accreditation activities as assigned. Knowledge of codes and regulations governing areas of responsibility. Knowledge of a variety of environmental issues. Knowledge of sampling techniques. Ability to make mathematical calculations. Ability to prepare an maintain accurate records on findings and to write clear and concise reports. Skills in accurate recording and reporting test data, maintenance of records, and preparation of reports. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, clients, co-workers, management, medical professionals, law enforcement, veterinarians, and others. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals or groups and to explain, discuss or interpret environmental health and sanitation matters. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and demonstrate skill in conflict resolution. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work independently and exercise considerable judgment and discretion in carrying out designated duties according to established policies and procedures.
