Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief Finance Officer, the Director of Supply Chain is a strategic position with responsibility for managing all aspects of purchasing, transportation, and warehousing; designing and executing strategies and plans to meet the company’s short-term and long-term supply chain management requirements.  This position is responsible for supply chain operations, including sourcing and procurement of all items [direct ($500MM), indirect ($40 MM), and logistics ($15MM)], contract manufacturing partnerships, new product development, and commodity risk management programs for purchases, inventories, & customer sales

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Lead team responsible for overall control and movement of materials in and out of the manufacturing plants/distribution centers throughout the United States.

  • Ensure Procurement Team negotiates competitive contracts for raw materials used in production plants.

  • Direct the procurement group to make strategic buying decisions based on company plans.

  • Manage relationships with key vendors at a top-to-top level, as well as management of key partnerships with external contract manufacturing partners.

  • Responsible for budget planning including analysis of raw material needs.

  • Oversee and manage all RFQs from Customers on new product bids and maintaining existing business.

  • Ensure Transportation Manager conducts periodic RFPs and negotiates freight rates with carriers as well as selects the best carriers using pricing and destination tools to maximize efficiencies.

  • Keep apprised of all inventory levels at all cost centers (current and obsolete).

  • Ensure Purchasing Manager effectively manages all critical supply items, supporting the Procurement Manager as needed, to prevent critical supply shortages – knowledge and ability to learn ingredients, key suppliers in the marketplace, and ability to discuss and form relationships with new suppliers.

  • Monitor and adjust cross dock inventory levels and adjust target inventories to meet company plans while factoring in demand fluctuations, new business, and lead time fluctuations with supply partners.

  • Establish and report on Supply Chain KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).

  • Manage and lead all hedging programs for customers and key interface between external risk management provider and Winona – manage forward purchase and set aside programs leveraging market conditions on spot volumes and forward futures curves.

  • Work closely with Procurement Team to develop, implement, and grow cheese opportunities to lower overall cost of cheese used in Winona manufacturing operations and report to CFO and Ownership via impact tracking.

  • Manage and negotiate all outside warehouse partners and project management for new service providers (identification, selection, contract negotiation, quality approval process, etc.). 

  • Validate inventory information in ERP (E21) system and provide guidance for data governance.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, housekeeping, and work rules and regulations.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

This position manages: Cheese Procurement Manager, Packaging & Ingredient Purchasing Manager, Transportation Manager, and Distribution Manager.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. 

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations or related field or equivalent work experience. Ten plus years’ experience in supply chain role with management experience.

Qualifications:

  • Track record of successfully managing a supply chain function in a commodity purchasing environment.

  • Ability to take action to improve processes and correct operational efficiencies.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic “total cost of goods” reductions / control.

  • Deep understanding of ERP systems related to supply chain functions.

  • TMS (Transportation Management System) experience and understanding

  • Proven Inventory management skills for raw materials and finished products.

  • Experience with sourcing and procurement in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in leading supplier and vendor RFP’s, negotiating supplier agreements, and reacting to supply chain challenges.

  • Experience leading internal distribution and warehouse departments as well as 3rd party warehouse and logistics relationships.

  • Professional certifications such as: NAPM, CPIM, CSCP, or CPSM preferred

  • Ability to look for opportunities, analyze data and make appropriate recommendations for business sourcing that will support the strategic direction of the business.

  • Analytical and Business Intelligence skills with the ability to mine data, develop formulations in order to drive critical business decisions to improve overall company profitability.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, Microsoft Suite, and interpersonal skills.
