WSP USA Sustainability Engineer in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

We are looking for a Sustainability / Building Lifecycle Specialist to support the delivery of sustainable building solutions, as part of a growing national team, supporting the UK business in terms of sustainability, Net Zero, Lifecycle Assessment, Embodied Carbon calculations and Circular Economy advice within the Built Environment. You will undertake Lifecycle Analysis, Whole Life Carbon and Embodied Carbon studies utilising WSP in-house software, One Click LCA and/or client tools to meet deliverables and standards. You will also be responsible for the following;

  • Prepare Sustainability, Whole Life Carbon and Circular Economy Statements for developments to complement planning submissions. This will include coordination and managing sustainability contributions from many different design team stakeholders. 

  • Undertake studies relating to BREEAM Credits: such as: Man 02 Lifecycle Costing, Mat 01 Lifecycle Analysis, Material Efficiency studies and Circular Economy.

  • Prepare high quality reports that clearly and concisely communicate the issues involved and the conclusions. The preparation of Lifecycle analysis report, Embodied Carbon Studies, Net Zero Carbon Presentation and sustainability strategies will be a core part of the job role.

  • Understand & apply the range of current and proposed UK sustainability related legislation to project solutions e.g. Building Regulations Part L, FIT’s, CRC, RHI’s, Local Planning Policy, proposals etc

We have experience of a comprehensive range of different building types including; commercial offices, residential, education, healthcare and retail and are looking to grow our capacity through further recruitment.

The group is actively involved in developing projects working towards Net Zero Carbon with advanced modelling techniques and innovative solutions.

The role will report directly to the Senior Sustainability and Lifecycle Specialist based in London. It will involve developing sustainability and Net Zero Carbon strategies for a diverse portfolio and will require the independent management of your own projects. The use of One Click LCA software is essential, to carry out Lifecycle Analysis. But most importantly, a personal interest in low carbon solutions.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

A passion for Net Zero, Low Carbon Design and materials. A background in Structural, Architecture and/or Quantity Surveying is preferable.

Experience as a sustainability consultant or in a related role. We are seeking for people at various levels.

An engineering background with an understanding of building fabric/elements/component is desirable.

An understanding of BREEAM and other environmental assessment methodologies

An understanding of current planning policies across the UK – in relation to sustainability and Net Zero Targets

Be able to effectively communicate to clients both inside and outside the business.

Excellent presentation skills and time management.

Good knowledge and use of OneClickLCA is essential

Qualifications:

Degree in engineering/environmental/architectural or sustainability related subject
