Job Description Summary

The Planner/Buyer is responsible for creating, monitoring and tracking production execution to the plans. Issuing required SAP Production Orders to meet planned inventory levels at the DC. Balances order due dates in coordination with operations and purchasing to assure continuous product flow, timely shipping and product availability within prescribed inventory objectives. Communicates with plant purchasing and acts as a buyer, when needed.

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing purchasing strategies to achieve the lowest cost of goods, the highest quality and best delivery. This includes: sourcing, negotiating, selecting suppliers, developing specifications, managing supplier relationships, processing purchase orders, expediting shipments, resolving issues with shipments, maintaining records and reporting on results.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing and implementing purchasing strategies which support business objectives.

  • Negotiating price, quantity discounts and other terms and conditions of purchase with suppliers.

  • Managing relationships with internal customers, external suppliers, brokers and freight forwarders.

  • Maintaining accurate records and reports on costs, usage, inventory levels and vendor performance.

  • Resolving issues related to late deliveries, shipping errors, invoice discrepancies and product quality.

  • Communicating effectively with internal and external customers to provide updates and status information.

  • Participating in cross-functional teams focused on improving supply chain efficiency.

  • Working closely with manufacturing operations, engineering, logistics and warehousing functions to ensure smooth flow of materials and products.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree desired

  • 3-5 years relevant experience in supply chain management or purchasing role

  • Experience in a medical device industry or regulated environment preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, etc. desired.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and project management skills.
