Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Dean of the Engineering, Math, and Physical Sciences ( EMPS ) Division, the Career Program Manager oversees Career Technical Education ( CTE ) programs, projects, and initiatives that promote, support, refine, and expand CTE offerings. Responsibilities include managing projects from the planning stages through to outcome assessment, fostering cross-departmental collaboration among faculty and various college departments, and leading initiatives that may encompass academic program expansion, enrollment marketing, student advising and support, grant application and management, event planning, and development and oversight of special projects. Additionally, the role involves serving on relevant task forces, work groups, committees, and collaborations with external partners.

The Career Program Manager acts as the primary contact for prospective CTE students within the division and serves as the liaison between the division and the College and Career Navigators, Academic Success Advisors, the Career and Job Placement Center, Community Workforce Partnerships, Dual Credit programs, and external community partners.

Required Qualification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Business, Education, Engineering, Manufacturing, Automotive or related field with five (5) years of work experience AND two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR

  • Master’s degree in Communication, Business, Education, Engineering, Manufacturing, Automotive or related field with five (5) years of work experience.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities.

  • Experience working with students from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with events or student needs.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other similar software.

  • Ability to develop and enhance collaborative partnerships to aid in recruitment of students.

  • Ability to plan and organize outreach events.

Summary of Essential Functions

Project Leadership/Management – 50%

  • Manage projects by creating plans and timelines, outlining action items, and monitoring related budgets.

  • Provide direction to project team participants and hold teams accountable to deadlines and outcomes.

  • Communicate with stakeholders throughout key cycles of the academic year.

  • Oversee EMPS representation and participation in cross-divisional initiatives including, but not limited to, Open House, SkillsUSA, and STEM for Girls.

  • Align resources across divisions to support multiple programs, monitor project progress, and adjust resources based on advancement.

  • Manage the division’s participation in co-curricular activities.

  • Create program specific training materials and opportunities for ASAs, CCNs and other internal partners.

  • Plan and coordinate info sessions and experiential learning events for prospective students.

  • Perform any and all other duties assigned that support the mission, values, and strategic initiatives of the college and goals of the EMPS division.

Strategic Leadership and Planning – 20%

  • Lead, manage, and direct activates that promote the recruitment of students through local organizations, high schools, community and corporate outreach in order to help meet enrollment goals of the EMPS division programs.

  • Build cross-functional relationships to support a positive and collaborative culture.

  • Partner with program chairs and the Career and Job Placement Center to facilitate tours and exploratory meetings with external industry partners.

  • Provide support to all CTE programs across campuses and the Advanced Technology Center.

  • Prepare reports on the progress of student recruitment and retention and recommend ideas for improvement to the division Dean and Associate Dean.

  • Participate in professional development and training to keep up with trends in industry and education and provide field specific expertise for program of study reviews.

Department Operations & Procedures – 20%

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of career programs, curricular changes, and all policies/procedures that may affect students pursuing CTE programs.

  • Attend all EMPS CTE program advisory committee meetings, to include: assist with the department with the meeting requests, agendas, and minutes; act as the liaison between the attendees and the division leadership team and Educational Affairs staff; and provide any College of Lake County updates to the Advisory Board attendees.

  • Act as the main division point of contact for Marketing and Public Relations when promoting events, producing and updating marketing materials, and website content.

  • Serve as Automotive Collision Internship Coordinator assisting students in the program and acting as point of contact for external partners.

  • Participate in the scholarship process including the recruitment of applicants and the selection process.

  • Manage issues related to enrollment, marketing, and other as directed by the Dean or Associate Dean.

Management and Supervision – 10%

  • Directly lead, manage, support and empower seven (7) full time lab specialists to career success at the College of Lake County.
