Corewell Health Pharmacy Technician Intern (Class of 2029 Students) in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Pre-pharmacy school students may begin this longitudinal pharmacy internship experience with a pharmacy technician license until pharmacy intern license is obtained.
Internship will occur at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals (Butterworth, Blodgett, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospitals)
Applicants must be accepted into a college of pharmacy with enrollment anticipated for Fall 2025 (anticipated graduation May 2029)
Activities include:
Longitudinal development includes:
First summer: inpatient pharmacy technician responsibilities by providing technical assistance in processing, preparing, and delivering medications and supplies
Second summer: compounding sterile preparations using aseptic technique
Third summer: direct patient interaction in obtaining and documenting medication history for a variety of patient populations or skill development in Investigational Drug Services
Internship frequency:
Year-round staffing:
Two 8-hour shifts every other weekend
Approximately 3 holidays per year for duration of internship
Schoolyear staffing: during P3 year only, one additional 4-hour weeknight shift per week required
Summer staffing: up to full time work completing technical or clinical activities depending upon departmental needs
Job Summary
Under the direction of a Pharmacist, provides technical assistance, processing and preparing medications and supplies. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas. Triages phone calls and messages from multidisciplinary team members.
Essential Functions
Prepares supplies / medication under the direction of a Pharmacist.
Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Delivers pharmacy prepared medications, controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
Triages phone calls and messages
Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Retail or hospital pharmacy experience Preferred
LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required And
LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan 1 Year required
CRT-Pharmacy Technician, Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC-Pharmacist Intern 1 Year required Or
CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC-Pharmacist Intern 1 Year required
Ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or be Enrolled in accredited PharmD program
Previous hospital pharmacy experience Preferred
Michigan Pharmacist Intern License preferred
