We are currently seeking a Junior Estimator (Heavy Civil) & Project Controls to work with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time position located in our Grand Rapids, MI office. Nationwide (virtual) candidates will also be considered for the position.A summary of the role's primary duties:The Junior Estimator reports directly to the Director of Estimating and Project Controls. In your role, you will learn, grow, and aspire to the role of Chief Estimator supporting the companies' efforts in securing new projects. The type of work involved includes:Supporting development of cost estimates for heavy civil and remediation construction opportunities. This includes bids (hard dollar estimates) and rough order of magnitude estimates (budgetary).Developing request for proposal and bid packages to obtain written quotations from subcontractors and vendors.Developing baseline schedules for proposals/estimates.Developing clear proposal scopes and assumptions/exclusions for project opportunities.Risk evaluation / management.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will:Attend pre-bid site visits offered by Clients.Prepare cost estimates for heavy civil and environmental construction projects or provide support to aid management in bidding or determining price of products or services.Prepare quantity take offs of the anticipated scope.Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and the contents of the estimate while using applicable plans, and specifications to complete takeoff of projects.Assist estimating team with locating and pre-qualifying subcontractors and suppliers via vendor databases, phone calls, and email announcements.Assemble RFQ and RFP packages to procure subcontractor and vendor quotations.Assist Estimating Team with reviewing subcontractor and supplier proposals and transfer data into HCSS.Work with proposal team on the production of standard and complex technical bid proposals and presentations.Participate in pre-proposal meetings, bid/estimate strategy and presentation meetings as required.Assist Project Managers in preparation of the change orders (as required).Perform other related duties as assigned by Staff Manager.May be required to work extended hours including weekends, as circumstances dictate. Frequent travel may be required (+30%).SKILLS/EXPERIENCEApproximately 5 years of Remediation and Heavy Civil Estimating experience.Construction Management or Civil Engineering Bachelor's Degree required (or equivalent work experience).Strong industry contacts, connections, and knowledge.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in HCSS, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project or Primavera scheduling software.Proficiency in planning, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and job costing.Strong organizational skills are required to maintain proper documentation, submittals and communications.About Haley & Aldrich
