Description JOB SUMMARY:

At a proficient and independently operating level with minimal supervision, represent our County, its departments and elected officials in all matters of legal issues as assigned by the County Attorney. Supervise Assistant County Attorneys in the County Attorney's Office. Acts in the absence of the County Attorney.

Essential Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provides legal representation for the County in all legal proceedings to which the County is a party, to include court appearance and drafting of pleadings.

Assist the County Attorney in administrative matters such as personnel selection, employee performance, and other routine management matters.

Supervise Assistant County Attorneys in the County Attorney's Office. Advise the County Attorney about staffing levels, quality of work, and other general operations.

Advise Department of Human Services and other county departments on Human Services related matters as necessary.

Advise departments on questions of law pertaining to County business as assigned.

Research, prepare and draft ordinances, resolution, legislation, contracts and other legal documents as required.

Advise Board of Commissioners appointed boards as directed.

Research, analyze and apply law to practical situations to proactively represent and, if necessary, defend county departments and officials. Prepare and draft written opinions as may be required.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing with County officials and employees, court clerks and judges, opposing counsel, and other professionals. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Prepare written opinions as required by County officials or as assigned by the County Attorney.

Serve on related boards and participate in appropriate task forces as directed by the County Attorney.

Maintain professional competence and training by attending related ongoing continuing legal education trainings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

Juris Doctorate or LLM; and

Ten years legal experience, preferably in the area of local government law; or

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Current license to practice law in the State of Colorado. License to practice in Federal District Court preferred, but not required.
