Ute Water Conservancy District Engineering Technician in Grand Junction, Colorado
Position Summary This position reports to the Project Engineer and, depending upon level, is responsible for performing field surveys for waterline designs, creating construction drawings for capital improvement projects, and may perform construction management services in pursuit of the District's objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following essential job functions are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Duties may be modified, added, or deleted at the discretion of management.
Depending upon level, responsible for performing field surveys for waterline designs, creating construction drawings for capital improvement projects, and may perform construction management services.
Accurately conducts field surveys and utility record acquisition to obtain data for projects and designs.
Prepares drawings and details from engineering sketches, surveys, field notes, and other data using a variety of specialized computer software for the design and construction of projects.
Combines all design methods and disciplines to form complete, correct, and concise construction drawings for capital improvement projects.
Provides input on timeframes to survey and draft projects.
Completes maps of finished construction projects, certifies compliance with project design specifications and standards, and coordinates distribution of record drawings with GIS staff.
Collaborates with Engineering department employees in coordinating construction schedules, inspecting waterline projects for compliance with design, safety, material specifications, and site clean-up standards.
Collects, maintains, and distributes distribution system features to GIS staff.
Position Requirements Based on level, the Engineering Technician position matrix of education, experience, and/or licensure is as follows:
Engineering Technician II ($32.85 - $42.21 per hour):
Education: Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: Three (3) years or more of drafting and/or surveying experience. A minimum of three (3) years of experience with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software Civil 3D. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in reading and interpreting engineering project plans. Proficient in the use of surveying software such as Trimble Business Center, and surveying equipment which includes theodolite, survey level, total station, and survey grade GPS equipment. Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control testing procedures.
Certification: FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (also known as FAA Part 107 UAS license), or obtains such certificate within one (1) year from date of hire into position.
Licenses: Valid Colorado Driver's License.
Engineering Technician I ($30.16 - $38.68 per hour)
Education: Technical certificate in Civil Drafting from an accredited institution. High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
Experience: Two (2) years or less of drafting and/or surveying experience. A minimum of two (2) years of experience with computer-aided drafting (CAD) Civil 3D. Proficient in the use of PDF editing software such as BlueBeam. Familiarity with surveying software such as Trimble Business Center, and surveying equipment which includes theodolite, survey level, total station, and survey grade GPS equipment. Familiarity with navigating and interpreting GIS programs and field mapping applications such as ESRI ArcGIS Field Maps, Google Earth, and Google Maps.
Licenses: Valid Colorado Driver's License.
Preferred Skills Valid State of Colorado Class I-IV Water Distribution System Operator certificate.
Valid FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (also known as FAA Part 107 UAS license).
Familiarity with raw water collection and conveyance, domestic water distribution and transmission, and/or treatment systems.
Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering project plans.
Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities of the position.
PAY AND BENEFITS This is a non-exempt position with a competitive benefits package. The pay range for this position is $30.16 to $42.21 per hour.
