Mandarin In-Person Interpreter

Kaidi LLC is seeking a qualified Mandarin In-Person Interpreter. This will be an onsite role at our manufacturing facility in Grand Haven, MI. This role has the flexibility to be either a part-time (20 hours) per week role or a full-time (40 hours) role, depending on the right candidate. This person will facilitate effective communication between Mandarin-speaking individuals and non-Mandarin speakers in various settings. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional linguistic skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

As a Mandarin In-Person Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in breaking down language barriers and ensuring clear and accurate communication in real-time. You will act as a linguistic bridge, helping individuals understand each other's messages, intents, and cultural nuances.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Accurate Interpretation

• Translate spoken Mandarin to the target language (e.g., English) and vice versa in real-time.

• Ensure accuracy and convey the meaning, tone, and intent of the speaker without alterations or personal bias.

   

Cultural Sensitivity

• Understand and respect cultural nuances to avoid miscommunication or cultural insensitivity.

• Explain cultural references or idiomatic expressions when necessary to ensure clarity.

   

Professionalism

• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards, especially when dealing with sensitive or private information.

• Remain neutral, avoiding any influence on the conversation or outcomes.

   

Listening and Communication Skills

• Listen attentively and interpret simultaneously (or consecutively) with clear pronunciation and speech.
• Clarify ambiguities with the speaker if necessary, without disrupting the flow of the conversation.
• Adapt to various dialects of Mandarin (e.g., Simplified or Traditional Chinese) and regional accents.

• Handle unexpected situations or shifts in conversation topics gracefully.

   

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Fluency in both Mandarin and English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
• Proven experience as an interpreter or translator in professional settings.
• Strong understanding of Mandarin dialects, cultural nuances, and regional variations.
• Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with industry-specific terminology (e.g., medical, legal, technical).
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or emotionally charged situations.
• Flexibility to travel and work in various environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification in interpretation or translation (e.g., CCHI, RID, or similar).
• Experience in simultaneous or consecutive interpretation.

• Knowledge of confidentiality and ethical standards in interpretation.
