Community Health Systems Phlebotomist Certified Full Time Days in Granbury, Texas
Job Summary
Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens. Ensures that all information from the blood collection of specimens is entered into the laboratory computer system including time drawn, time received, and proper phlebotomy code. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases using proper collection procedures as set forth by NIDA. Picks up samples from nursing units as required. Performs other related functions as assigned by the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Always records phlebotomy collection information into the Laboratory Information System with accurate attention to name of patient, collection time, and receive time.
Accurately and successfully performs venipunctures, following phlebotomy policies and procedures
Accurately and successfully performs finger sticks on adult and pediatric patients, following phlebotomy policies and procedures.
Accurately and successfully performs heel sticks on infants, following phlebotomy policies and procedures.
Maintains phlebotomy carts and supply area in a clean and orderly fashion.
Always follows patient identification policies and procedures. Labels samples in presence of the patient.
Always labels specimens properly with all required information to meet CAP requirements.
Accurately collects chain of custody urine samples and completes collection documentation.
Always follows laboratory requirements for use of personal protection equipment.
Willingly helps co-workers to complete section duties.
Willingly adaptable to changes in assignments and assignments at off site locations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or GED required
Technical School Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred. required
0-1 years Phlebotomy experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification Certification as a phlebotomist through a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, ASPT, NCA or equivalent. required
AHA or ARC BLS Certification within 30 days of hire preferred
