CITY OF GORDON Code Enforcement Officer in GORDON, Nebraska

[This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm, subject to change and possible overtime hours. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

[Hiring Range: $36,000.00 - $42,000.00 annually (salary to be commensurate with qualifications)

[The successful candidate will perform duties related to the zoning enforcement and Animal Control Ordinances of the City of Gordon, NE., specifically related to enforcement of city rubbish, weed, and unsafe building ordinances as well as loose, neglected or abandoned animals and nuisance wildlife. Interacts extensively with the complaining parties and alleged violators. Monitors conditions of compliance for zoning, variance of use, special use requests and approvals for public and private property, as well as licenses and tags for pets; maintenance and upkeep of the city pound, capture and retention of various wildlife and pets and the care and safety of detained animals.   • Follows up on incoming calls and complaints concerning alleged violations of city code/ ordinances concerning rubbish, weed and brush, and unsafe building, animal at large, nuisance wildlife and noise complaints.
  • Interacts extensively with complaining parties and alleged violators; acts in a courteous and professional manner with frequently upset callers, complaining parties, and alleged violators.
  • Inspects sites and properties where alleged code and ordinance violations are found or reported. May review site plans for building code issues and living conditions for animal control issues.
  • Prepares reports evidencing violations, routes reports appropriately, and initiates issuance of violation notices to alleged violators.
  • Develops compliance schedule for alleged violators.
  • Prepares and sends letters and notices to residents regarding violations.
  • Posts hearing and violation notices on properties.
  • Develops effective working relationships and acts as liaison to various local governmental and private agencies.
  • Participates with assigned project team to meet project schedules, completing all necessary tasks in a timely manner and by the established deadlines as requested.
  • Performs other duties as required.

[Supervision Exercised:This classification does not have supervisory authority; however, may be required to provide expertise or limited guidance or direction to peers. Typically serves as a subject matter expert on the scope of functional area.

Supervision Received:Receives general supervision and reports directly to the City Manager and performs job duties by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching may be expected. Performance reviewed periodically.
