Summary:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides close, one-to-one observation of a patient to provide a safe environment. Promotes a calm, therapeutic, safe environment using professional communication skills and utilizes principles of caring in a respectful manner.
Responsibilities:
Remains alert and focused at the bedside of the assigned patient to provide safety for the patient and does not leave the patient unattended at any time.
Participates in patient engaged bedside shift report with members of the direct care staff.
Monitors patient for changes in physical, emotional and psychological condition, reporting observations of changes or behaviors to the registered nurse.
Accurately and legibly documents observations and pertinent data per policy.
Maintains integrity and honesty at all times.
Takes initiative in rendering service or responding to needs.
Responds rapidly and thoroughly to emergencies or special needs of the assigned patient.
Assists with keeping the patient’s room safe, orderly and clean.
Assists in managing patient behavior that is agitated, confused, disorderly.
Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues by reporting any safety hazards to the registered nurse.
Immediately seeks help from medical professionals when the patient appears in distress or escalating behaviorally.
Follows all emergency procedures.

Education Requirements:
● High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Current CPR certification and CPI (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) course required within 6 months of hire.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Six months experience in health care or security preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe, age-specific and therapeutic patient environment.
Ability to don and wear personal protective equipment as part of infection control guidelines.
Good hygiene practiced and neat in personal appearance.
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Basic proficiency with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
Ability to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods and meet the physical requirements of the job.
