TDA Research Lab Safety Technician in Golden, Colorado
TDA Research, Inc., located outside Denver, Colorado with research offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden, is seeking a full time Lab Safety Technician for a temporary three-month employment with the potential for conversion to permanent placement with benefits. TDA has a staff of 130+, which consists of mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. The Lab Safety Technician will assist in the operation of TDA’s laboratories in support of technical staff in diverse experimental disciplines including chemistry, engineering. materials science, and biology. All tasks will be trained under the general supervision of the Manager of EH&S and the Laboratory Safety and Compliance Officer.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Maintain lab areas to ensure safety and cleanliness
Apply and maintain lab safety guidelines
Perform Laboratory Safety Inspections and assist in corrective actions
As part of a team, respond to lab emergencies including injuries and chemical spills
Provide general support for the laboratories including submitting work orders on leaks, hazards, and facilities infrastructure
Assist in the installation of new equipment, including coordinating with Facilities ensure proper infrastructure is in place
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on lab equipment and arrange for major repairs according to established procedures
Manage shared lab equipment and perform or coordinate periodic calibrations as required by stablished procedures
Order chemicals, reagents, and gasses
Maintain chemical inventories within ChemTracker (chemical inventory system)
Assist in the disposal of hazardous waste under supervision of HazWaste Specialist
Assist in revising safety manuals and training, as needed
Support TDA’s research goals and perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Knowledge of and ability for the safe handling of chemicals and laboratory equipment/instruments
Required Education and Experience:
BA/BS or AA/AS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related physical science
Prefer one year of laboratory experience
Additional years of related experience may be substituted for educational requirement
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Conduct inspections, carry equipment, and climb ladders
Work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Able to be fitted for and wear a respirator as needed – no facial hair for fitting
Lift up to 40 pounds at a time
Full-Time, on-site (no remote or hybrid). Temporary 3 month position without benefits with potential for permanent Full Time position with benefits.
Hourly Rate: $22 - $26
In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors as education, experience, skill-set, and/or location.
