ABOUT THE ROLE

Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering (MatEng) is seeking an electronics failure analysis engineer. The position requires hands-on destructive analysis and evaluation of electrical components and assemblies. The role will primarily focus on review and disposition of destructive analysis inputs/results. Successful candidates will have a strong technical understanding of the specifications and requirements associated with EEE parts for use in high reliability applications, including but not limited to MIL-STD-1580, MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-750, and various MIL-PRF part-level specifications. Along with the focus on part/lot disposition there will be opportunity for hands-on execution of DPA processes within a lab setting. The candidate should be familiar with the basic construction and operating principles of common electrical components. Additional assets include knowledge in the use of scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy, chemistry, identification of materials, de-processing of parts or assemblies, x-ray radiography (real time and film) including film interpretation and component electrical testing skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review technical reports and provide disposition per program flow-down requirements including military and internally generated specifications

  • Provide feedback on report content and quality for peers and technicians

  • Engage with external DPA suppliers and program customers on failure conditions and provide technical input on RCCA efforts

  • Ability to provide technical communications and justifications for dispositions

  • Ability to provide technical expertise to assist programs with part problem decisions and in establishing corrective action

  • Ability to provide program/customer/laboratory interface and communications to assure full integration of the labs in the program level failure investigation process

  • Operation of curve tracers, oscilloscopes, function generators, LCZ bridges, and general-purpose test equipment

  • Experience with performing both macro and micro photography

  • Ability to perform electrical testing on all submitted components and assemblies to the extent a reported failure is verified

  • Ability to perform physical failure analysis on all components and assemblies to isolate and identify a failure, determine root cause, and propose appropriate corrective actions

  • Ability to apply six sigma tools in the failure analysis process including development and implementation of design of experiments (DOE's)

  • Ability to perform trade studies to evaluate reliability/failure characteristics of components and assemblies

Must be a US Citizen due to contractual requirements.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

  • 7 years of engineering experience in a laboratory environment
