Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, Professional Services Specialist II
We are seeking a qualified, service-oriented engineering professional for Rowan University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department (http://www.rowan.edu/ece) , to meet the technical support needs of our faculty, students, and laboratory facilities.
The ECE support engineer works in a multidisciplinary environment that includes Civil & Environmental, Chemical, Biomedical, and Mechanical Engineering; however, the primary assignment is to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Due to its hands-on nature, this position requires physical presence and cannot be done remotely. The duties of this position include:
Assist in the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory/field equipment and facilities to support innovative, project-based/hands-on engineering education and research programs.
Assist students and other faculty in the practical applications of analog and digital circuits & electronics; computers, embedded systems & IoT, control systems, communications, and/or other relevant ECE areas to support the Department’s teaching and research mission.
Provide know-how and technical support with:
prototyping, fabrication, and verification of designs,
operation and execution of laboratory demonstrations and experiments for classes, labs, and research projects,
developing and delivering workshops, tutorials, online, and other training methods to help users get the most out of department equipment, hardware, and software assets.
Maintain workplace safety in accordance with applicable University and regulatory agency policies:
monitor all ECE labs to ensure safety,
provide individual and group training including online training to students, staff, and faculty on lab safety procedures, and the safe use of instrumentation,
develop and update safety training procedures as necessary.
Help specify and procure laboratory equipment and supplies; maintain department inventory to ensure that the right resources are in the right place at the right time.
Install and maintain engineering software;
Manage student workers supporting the job duties; this includes interviewing, hiring, and supervision.
Maintain and enhance skills through appropriate training and professional development.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (for PSS III) or Master of Science (for PSS II) in electrical and/or computer engineering or a similar / equivalent degree.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in an academic or industrial setting (that can be concurrent with pursuing the B.S. degree) for PSS III, 3 years of experience for PSS II (one year of which may be concurrent with pursuing the B.S. or M.S. degree).
Experience in use, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of typical test/measurement instrumentation and equipment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with embedded design using a variety of processors (PIC, MSP430, ARM, etc.) and software (C, C++, Java, HTML, etc.)
Experience with PCB and mechanical packaging design
Experience with the use of ECE software for design and analysis such as LabVIEW, Cura, Visual Studio, MPLAB, Code Composer Studio, Altium, DipTrace, AutoCAD/SolidWorks, LTSpice, Matlab, etc.
Experience with rapid prototyping equipment, including manual and automated pick and place machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.
Experience with lab safety procedures.
