TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Design Engineer I, II, or III (Transportation Engineer): Georgetown Area Office (Austin District) in Georgetown, Texas

This position performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:THe essential duties for a Design Engineer (Transportation Engineer) I, II, or III include:Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area EngineersAssists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Assists with design computer operations and plan preparation.Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent with transportation systems (ITS) plans of and projects.Coordinates phases of of preliminary design and revisions in PSE with districts, divisions, Administration, the FHWA, contractors, fabricators, Corps of Engineers and local entities.Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Monitors consultant design contracts.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality, checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements. Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for the State.Additional duties for a Design Engineer (Transportation Engineer) II:Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contractsCoordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Monitors contractors' compliance with plan and specifications. Monitors contractors' progress and work quality; check invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.Reviews shop drawings plans, specifications, estimates. supplemental agreements and change order requests.Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers. Additional duties for a Design Engineer (Transportation Engineer) III: Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies. Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems. Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.
