    Job Summary:

    The Medical Director provides leadership and direction to Finger Lakes Community Health clinical care teams to ensure clinical operations are consistent with the values, mission, vision, and implementation strategies of the organization. The Medical Director reports to the Chief Clinical Officer, and supervises the providers for clinical support, clinical practices, clinical compliance, and oversight of licensure. The Medical Director collaborates with the Chief Clinical Officer and Administrative staff to provide supervision to clinical and non-clinical support staff as needed.

    Main Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Clinical Officer, and various members of the leadership team to establish approaches for provider productivity.

  • Contributes clinical expertise to the Quality Committee and Quality Planning Team to plan, assess, and evaluate quality improvement initiatives, and ensure quality, safety, and standards of care.

  • Determines regulatory requirements in collaboration with Chief Clinical Officer for clinical management of a licensed community health center.

  • Oversees clinical guidelines, peer review process, and clinical audit process; assures the clinical

competency of providers.

  • Provides guidance and oversight of plans for corrective action, with support from the Chief Clinical Officer.

  • Mentors and provides clinical oversight to the medical staff on changing health regulations, thus ensuring that patients receive the highest standard and quality of medical care.

  • Leads and coordinates care team meetings and peer reviews.

  • Provides the final medical decision on medical issues when disputes, concerns, or precarious decisions arise.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Physician Responsibilities:

    Perform Examinations

  • Takes, evaluates, and records comprehensive health histories

  • Provides a comprehensive physical exam to evaluate health status, acute issues, and/or chronic conditions from children to geriatrics

  • Diagnoses and manages acute episodic and chronic medical illnesses as well as stable behavioral/psychological problems

  • Performs simple, in-office procedures as needed

  • Provide well child care, including screening and ordering of immunizations

  • Initiate consultation requests with specialists and other health professionals for appropriate medical conditions

    Diagnostic tests

  • Orders appropriate labs and/or radiological/diagnostic testing to assess and diagnosis medical issues

  • Interpret labs and studies to guide management of illness

    Treatment of Medical/Behavioral Conditions

  • Establish management treatments from presenting illnesses, labs results, and diagnostic testing

  • Record patient interactions in a concise, clear, logical manner within the electronic health record

  • Prescribe non-pharmacological therapies and pharmacological agents, to include Schedule II-V controlled substances, within scope of practice

  • Manage common gynecological problems

    Provide Counseling and Education

  • Educate appropriate age groups on use of community services, as well as the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health

  • Counsel on family planning to include contraception, pregnancy, STDs, and child birth

  • Advise patients on the aging process and promotion/well-being in advanced age

  • Act as supervising physician and mentor to Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants pursuant to New York State Law and organizational needs

    Education and Qualifications:

  • A current unrestricted NYS Physician License required

  • 10+ years of experience in a clinical practice

  • National board certification required; Family medicine or med-peds required

  • CPR certification required (can be provided)

  • Prior experience in a leadership capacity preferred

  • Non-profit experience preferred

  • The ability to work flexible hours -- some evenings are required

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff via phone, web media, and in person.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

  • OSHA Category I
