Chemours is seeking an APM Global Advocacy Leader to join our growing Advanced Performance Materials (APM) Business Sustainability team ! This position will report directly to the APM Global Sustainability Senior Director and be based in Europe at a Chemours site or remote.

The Business Sustainability team works collaboratively across the business and functions in order to advance and protect APM products and reputation. The APM Global Advocacy Leader will develop and execute the APM global business advocacy strategy, executing through a team of direct reports in Europe, US, and China, in alignment and collaboration with a global cross-functional network. The ideal candidate will have proven strategic thinking and management skills, coupled with broad experience and demonstrated success in addressing chemical policy and regulatory developments and a deep understanding of risks and opportunities for the business, customers, and value chain.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and execute effective regulatory, industry, and value chain advocacy strategies in support of the global business strategy to protect and defend the right to operate and right to participate for the existing product portfolio while facilitating approvals and creating opportunities to advance new and innovative offerings.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of regional advocacy professionals, including setting and meeting strategic goals and objectives for the team and individuals, project prioritization, talent development, recruiting, and succession planning.

  • Understand regulatory, societal, and perception trends in EMEA, Americas, and Asia Pacific regions. Provide context and response to complex regulatory and policy related questions, formulate positions, identify solutions, and communicate implications to the business (risk or opportunity) and downstream partners as appropriate.

  • Interact with relevant trade and industry associations (including representing Chemours’ positions and holding leadership roles) and other stakeholders in order to positively influence emerging regulations, and support Government Affairs with content and business insights in interactions with policy makers and regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare and deliver messaging and presentations for internal and external stakeholders in response to inquiries and to represent Chemours positions.

  • Establish and extend internal and external networks to support strategic advocacy goals.

  • Develop and maintain a stakeholder management program consisting of tools, processes, and tracking to facilitate Chemours business advocacy and strategic relationships with influencer organizations.

  • Develop strategies and advocate for policies that support responsible manufacturing and ensure consistent expectations and actions across industry.

The following is required for this role:

  • Degree in life sciences, materials sciences, or related relevant experience with 10-15 years of combined leadership and regulatory and / or advocacy experience

  • Proven ability to think strategically and track record of strategy development (regulatory advocacy and /or business strategy)

  • Proven track record of influence in policy or regulation of chemical substances or related industry positions

  • Proven ability to establish and influence networks

  • Extremely high-powered individual with strong executive presence

  • Excellent project planning, project management, and communication skills

  • Demonstrated drive for results and ownership mentality

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Experience with / awareness of organofluorine chemistries, products, and applications

  • Experience with trade associations, in a leadership role or proven success influencing other member companies to arrive at a consensus position

  • Experience with new chemical registration and chemical control laws (e.g. EU REACH)

  • Experience leading global teams

  • Excellent language skills in English and preferably one or more other European language

  • Willingness and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders across country lines, cultures, and time zones
